    Lo folks,

I'm a long time asthma 'sufferer', and after a few scares lately I need to try bring it under proper control, ie. correct medication and correct actions if I ever get into a problem with it.

Have had it since my mid teens, so over ten years and have just always had a ventolin inhaler at hand. It's all I seem to need, however, doctors I have visited in the past have had little knowledge of the ailment or for that matter very little advice on how best to treat it and manage it.

So, does anyone know of a decent doctor around the Dublin 6 area that actually knows how to treat this and doesn't just pass ya off as another whingin asthmatic?

I know this may sound weird have you tried the natural path way of dealing with your asthma? I heard a lot about this from people that had tried it. There is a guy in Celbridge that is very good. If you want I can PM with details.

It was said that asthma is brought on by the lack of the immune system for fighting germs etc. In today society where we use chemicals to kill germs etc there has been a big jump in reported asthma cases.

I have just become fed up with my deplorable asthma conditions. I am aware that this condition cannot heal and whatever medications or treatment I take up are all going to go in vain. This I can say after seeing the treatment results in me for more than a decade. I cant say that I have learned to live with this problem but then there is no other option for me!

    OP,
I would recommend you ask your GP to refer you onwards to a consultant in this area. I know there are specialists cos every so often my mam nags me to go see one. If you've had a few scares lately I would say you're not in a good enough condition to consider natural alternatives, although i hear the Buteyko breathing is good.

On the germs issue, i don't know. I did all the things as a child that they say should build a strong immune system; born on a farm, drank unpasteurised milk, exposure to animals, hay, pollen, dust etc. I guess i was just born a bit weak. On the positive side i have largely grown out of my asthma during my 20s and only use salamol now. My immune system i am convinced has gotten really strong as a result of 10 yrs commuting on public transport (i kid you not!). I used to be sick all the time and now hardly ever, and if i do get a chest infection it's way less severe than it used to be. There's always hope i'm saying i guess.:o
