***Poets and Artists, the final round***

Having read through the limerick competition it would break my heart to pick just one entry as a winner. However I also don't have enough money to give everyone who submitted a great limerick as a winner.

    So the finalists:
with an honourable mention to bobafett, Flushdraw, gerry87 and so many others, the final four are

sendic, 5starpool, William Money, and El Stuntman.

The final round of this competition is to make me a picture of what you would do with the money if you won the tournament. You can use any medium you like but MS Paint is highly encouraged. Effort will be recognised. Email me the pictures and I'll post them all at the same time, without names, so everyone can discuss them and argue for their favourites. I'll PM you all my email address.

Remember you are playing not only for your pride and your potential share of the loot, but for the kids.

I will be the judge and my decision is final, but I might ask boards for a little help in determining the winner. Things I will be looking for are effort, originality, humour, and a good choice of what to do with the money. For example if you are going to put it all in the bank you are really going to need to be a Van Gogh.

El Stuntman accidentally emailed me his art entry instead of emailing it to you, RoundTower. Helpfully, I've put it up on the internet now so you can see it. Here's the link...

for the record El Stuntman did have one limerick which didn't look plagiarized, it started "poker is a game which attracts the unsavoury". I liked this poem but if anyone can show me the original work where it was published I'll put them in the final instead.

RofLmfao.:D Ah that was a highly amusing start to the day.

Anyone wonder what RT's next charitable venture could be?

My guess is maybe he'll sponsor an entire Somalian village from his tournament winnings, with of course a few small provisos that they bow down before him, he gets the pick of their daughters and they call him Allah. ;)

After some excellent efforts in the preliminary round some of our contestants may have felt a bit tired in the final round, or not read the rules properly.

William Money sadly did not submit an entry.

El Stuntman submitted his picture in limerick form:
    Part 1: Noble intentions

Just like Greenstein, altruism would be prevalent
My winnings would go to causes benevolent
All that cash I would spend
    To put to an end
The suffering caused by events most malevolent

Part 2: Whereby noble intentions wrestle with greed

But poker is a game based on illusion
And you win by sowing confusion
    Should my first composition
    Be viewed with suspicion?
Would I blow all the dosh in profusion?

Part 3: The Kid shows me the light

I searched poker’s rich history for clues
Stuey ‘The Kid’ Ungar became my muse
    So I’ll have to confess
Were I to win the contest
I’d spend it all on coke, hookers and booze!

5starpool submitted the following minimalist effort:
    http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g36/roundtower/5starpic.jpg

sendic submitted a more elaborate variation on the theme:
    http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g36/roundtower/sendicpic.jpg

I have decided that sendic is a worthy winner and will be representing me and the charity in some tournament to be confirmed. We're talking about it at the moment but basically whatever he wants.

edit: linked the pics which are oversize for me here

yeah and I know it took a long time but I'm in Peru and may not read this again till the IO is well over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

Well isnt it well for some, I hear Peru is very nice this time of year......

anyway congrats Sendic and good effort El Stuntman I suppose, as for 5starpool you have let down the name of your family....

Those pics aren't as good as I would have expected, but well done to sendic anyway.

Dom's going to buy a load of penises? What an odd choice!Quite disappointed as well with the efforts. It's a pity Maddox wasn't in this competition.

I think my entry was the best of a poor lot

Paint isn't my strong point and that took approx 5 mins. Also I knew I wouldn't be able to play sincs I would still be in the main event as I have now qualified.

    /ends thinly veiled brag post.

I have to say, I'm a little disappointed...

We are mathematical geniuses, specialists in lateral thinking to the 7th level and beyond, with the ability to cope with million dollar+ decisions under pressure.
We are not a load of poncy artists.

I'd like to thank the academy, I'd like to thank my parents, I'd like to thank God....

Cheers Dave, I'll do my best. I won't be around over easter so the IO omaha is out, the 300 event at the GJP festival looks good.

Ah cut the artistes some slack here lads, in true poker style they did the absolute minimum necessary to try and win the thing so rather than turn over a "full house" painting they decide to go for the ftw with "king high" lol.

And in fairness the quality of the poems was top notch.

Good luck Sendic in whatever event you play, a decent report of your performance is required on the tournie page! And obviously wd to Dave on his donation it's provided boards with the best thread of the year imho.

I think my entry was accompanied by the line - I'm putting this in on the hope that there will be no other entries as I can't really think of anything witty.

if you werent a mod im pretty sure youd have been banned for your entry...it was that poor.

In fairness 5starpool Christy Brown could have done a better job with his right foot then the attempt you did, and it would have taken less time...................

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,864 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

Hey, there was quite abit of effort put into the table. I kinda gave up after a few mins though. I was going to include a coke and hooters theme as well, but couldn't be arsed. I only submitted it as I thought I might win by default (the two sweetest words in the English language).

I got the instructions wrong and painted mine on the roof of a chapel somewhere (i was holidaying in Italy at the time).

I am sure it would have won-

it created quite a stir over there!!

Ah well I will just have to console myself with the recent 7,000
addition to my bankroll from the 100 game last night he he

    Best of luck Sendic
    Hard luck Dom and Stuntman

God luck to all in The IO

    accounting:

played the 330 game in Drogheda today. great game, well done to all involved.

I busted toward the end of the 2nd level. :(

Thanks to RT for the opportunity, sorry I couldn't make it a worthwhile investment, for you or 1%p !

    Exit hand.

A VERY loose aggressive player makes it 300 UTG (blinds 50/100)
In MP I look down at QQ and decide to flat call and take a flop against him as I'm fairly sure he'll fire on almost any board.
A player behind me makes it 1200 to go (he's fairly tight but I don't think he's great)
    UTG calls.
Should I push here or flat call? I have ~ 5k behind. both villains cover
I decided to call and try to get it in on any raggy flop.

flop came 456 with two spades. UTG checks, I push, Villain2 folds, UTG calls with 9s7s. oesd and fd. he hit on the turn.

Smurf was on the table, I wouldnt mind hearing her opinion.

Tough spot you were in, and in fairness I feel that if you push pre-flop UTG would have been liable to call any. He was definitely calling that flop. Unlucky.
