When i say cheap mats, i really mean good mats @ a decent price.

I have a mate who is looking to kit out his garage for training and he would need a dozen or so mats depending on their size.

    Anybody have any ideas?

U could try icon martial arts .
They have tatami puzzle mats at 20mm and 40mm . I've bought the 20mm for my garage and I have no complaints. I also bought Judo mats for our gym, which were pretty expensive. If I had a chance to do it again I'd go for the 40mm for a large area, but if its for the garage get the 20mm.

    Hey Dave

I have the perfect mats for you, there like the normal jig-saw mats apart from the finish on them is more of a leather top,i use them for MMA,BJJ,they look like a wooden floor when they are down!!!!!really nice......ring me 087-2137213 barry.

Do you find the 20mm matts ok for throwing or just rolling?
I had considered the 20mm for my garage but wasn't sure.

    Martin.

The mats I have are on a wooded floor ,which has a little spring to it , so theres not much impact. Ideal for rolling.

But ,if I had a concrete garage floor I'd say I'd go for the 40mm for Throws.

    Hey Dave

The mats are 25mm by 100cm sq,they are jig-saw mats but of a higher standard, plus they come with a detachable straight edge...i have been selling them for 50 each,if you can get a look at Point Blank Submissions club floor, there the mats,....if your looking for bulk i can do them for less...i have them down in my club to,we grapple and do throws and take-downs on them no problem, also i have yet to stand on them in my bare feet and be cold, whatever it is with them they dont go cold......drop me a line:cool:

THe only problem with the http://www.iconmartialarts.com/html/mats.html mats is that they say:
We do ship to Northern and Southern Ireland - Please Phone for a Quote

Has anyone bought these off this company?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 695 ✭✭✭Liam_B

As mentioned, above, I've bought theset mats from this company, but for the life of me, cant remember the shipping costs. Bought 25 mats and were shipped to the door.
I suppose your best option is to get a shipping quote off them and a quote from bazman75 and weigh up your options.

On another note bazman75 ,can u pm me a quote for 25 of your mats and do they only come with the wooden floor effect on them?

    cheers

cough ...cough..choke ..choke! You will have to excuse me Bazman, i nearly choked on my coffee. Did u say 50 Euro per mat? 25mm x 1m sq? I thought Icon were expensive @ £20 for 40mm mats. I said in the title ''cheap'' mats. They are only for a garage, not for a club. My mate has about £1000 sterling to spend on mats. He will need about 40 i would guess of the jigsaw type mats but i think he is looking for the judo type mats (1m x 2m).

Even if you did a better deal at bulk it would need to be almost half of the price you quoted for 25mm thick mats. ;)

Mats are mental money, but if its just for a garage, why not check out a cheaper alternative. You will need:

    1) Some carpet underlay, enough for 2 layers (dirt cheap)
    2) Some play mats as seen in Smyths toy store (about €25 for a square metre)
    3) If its a really hard floor, a bale of 1" foam insulation (about €5 a bale)
    4) Some wooden lats and veavy duty tape to keep it all together

This is what we had in my old shed, except I had sheets of vinyl that you'd get signs printed on instead of Smyths mats. Lovely and soft it was. I didn't pay a penny for it I just scrounged material. Then my Ma wanted to landscape the garden so down came the shed... stupid water feature...

I had a look at those iconmats,if you are going to be grappling and moveing about on them, the icon mats are crap!!(thats why they are cheap) i have used them b4 and if you have a Gi or shorts n t-shirt on you wont be able to move on them, plus the quality of them is'nt good either, they tend to break up..I'll take the "Pepsi challange" on quality, look and price on the mats i have, plus im in Ireland and can deliver them to you free!!!..............!!NOT ABOUT THE MONEY!!ITS ABOUT THE SPORT!!Grapple on...............................................................................................
