Irish exam format is to be changed to allow more marks to be given for Oral/Aural then the current 25PC on offer in the new leaving certificate cycle. (ref. this mornings herald am) Is this a good or a bad idea, a chairde??

I think it'd be cool if they did something like with music - you have an elective.
So like, you'd have to do 25% aural/oral, 50% written, and an optional 25% for aural/oral or written. Encouraging irish speakers, and irish.. writerly.. scholarly people!
This would reward people who are naturally fluent in speech, and also those who may not be but have a good grasp of the written language.

I was always under the impression that speaking and understanding the spoken language were the most important aspects of using any language.

It's of limited value to be good at reading & writing in a language, if you were unable to understand it if someone else read it back to you!

Writing in text speak doesn't help either

Brilliant news, the amount of people the current course alienates...

Won't effect me, doing it this year :/
