For various complicated reasons I reinstalled Ubuntu on my laptop, and now I'm having problems with DVDs. For various complicated reasons I reinstalled Ubuntu on my laptop, and now I'm having problems with DVDs. I can usually play the first part of any given disc with vlc, which then crashes and burns with "libdvdread: Can't seek to block 427144" (or whatever block number - the block is the same for any given disc). On some discs I get that error at the very start, and it crashes completely.

libdvdread3 is 0.9.6, libdvdcss is 1.2.5 - any ideas?
