I've just arrived in Sydney on a working holiday visa. I applied a while ago online and I expected to be interviewed or go through some process at the airport to confirm the visa. Instead they just stamped my passport with the day of arrival and left me through - is this all I can expect. do they ask for proof that I meet the requirements?

I arrived into Sydney (Im now in Melbourne) on Saturday and I didnt get asked a thing, I had the Working holiday Visa page pressed into my passport., im guessing when you get work you will have to show that page in your passport to your employer?

I was asked to a different desk in the airport and that guy put in the WHV.

it a electronic visa so all your details are on file- you apply for your Tax number over the net - i dont even no if they asked for my visa number for the visa.

that issue crossed my mind aswell but ive got a job now and all i wasnt asked for anything. i had my tax number but if you dont have a tax number you just get taxed at 49%

So you actually have the visa in yourr passport? I remeber a friend who applied a few years ago had one put in his aswell which is why I wondered. I guess I'll just do as you say and request a tax file number and find out what happens. Thanks for your help guys.

I've also heard that people on the WHV don't get a tax free allowance normally but there is a way around this. I can't recall the specifics but now I'm going to start work I'm obviouisly very keen to avoid paying extra taxes. Did anyone hear anything about this?

Just arrived in Melbourne myself btw, have to say that first impressions are favourable
