Text On Sky - Black Screen with no text - All Channels

    Hi,

    In the past week or so my text (Aertel/teletext etc) functions have stopped working on my Sky box.

    When i try to view text, I press TV and then the text button. A black screen appears as normal however there is no information displayed.
    Occassionally some page numbers may appear at the bottom of the screen - representing the page shortcuts for the coloured buttons however they do not work.

    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

    This is exactly the way my teletext has worked (or not as the case may be) from day one. The digital text on BBC or Channel 4 work fine but the normal Aertel has never worked. Exactly the same as damien, black screen with page numbers at the bottom of the screen.

    Love to know the fix for this too.

    It seems to come an go on certain boxes. Ive had Panasonic and Amstrad box's do the very same. If you unplug the box and let it start up again teletext will come back, but often drops off a few days later again. Ive now got a Thomson box that has no problem with teletext at all.

    unfortunately I have no text on any channel! same black screen for all!

    The box i have is the white "Pace" box. Have it just over a year

    I'm in work at the moment, will try get one of the folks to power off the box and back on. Will post results later

    Ok, the box was unplugged and left for a few minutes.
    Text came back but an hour later it was back to the same problem (black screen)

    Does this mean there is a problem with the box? What to do next?

    my old grundig box and my new pace box have this problem

    although, powering off for a few minutes usually "fixed" the problem for much longer than about an hour, usually it was weeks or months. the problem doesnt happen as much on the new box, but it was more frequent on the old grundig

    Tried Aertel on RTE yesterday just for the sake of it and surprise surprise, it's now working perfectly.

    What I think may have happened in my case was I had a Panasonic dvd recorder that the digibox was plugged into and which then passed through the signal to the tv.

    I got a new Pioneer dvd/hd recorder about a month ago which again the digibox is plugged into. I'm assuming that the old Panasonic recorder maybe wasn't passing the text signal through or something. Seems the most likely explanation anyway.

    Any chance that this could be what's happening with the original poster?
