    Nope.

Sky don't pay RTE or TV3, so what you pay Sky doesn't get passed on to them.

People in the UK pay for the BBC, but you pay Sky so that you can watch it.

You could always get a FreeSat box and stop paying Sky altogether.

I always laugh when I see that people are happy to pay for Sky Sports or whatever, but complain about paying their TV licence; if it weren't for the same Sky Sports et al, that same TV licence fee would provide you with Heineken Cup coverage, Celtic League coverage, Premiership and Champions League coverage, etc, etc....it was excellent value for money in that way, and it's only now that we realise it.

i really dont understand peoples problem with understanding this. you are paying to own a tv, not to watch RTÉ

do you not remember what sports coverage was like before Sky Sports came about?

you arnt paying for a tv, you pay for a tuner, you are supposed to pay for any device that can recieve a signal, even a tv tuner in a pc(not really inforced)

The TV licence is a tax on Live TV viewing., Nothing to do with how you receive it, the channel or platform.

So effectivly I should have a colour TV licence if I can recieve tv on my Nokia Mobile phone!!!! The TV inspectors would have some fun trying to detect me with their sophisticated equipment!!, I rarely watch TV anyway with the amount of trash thats on these days.

yeah, let's stop paying for anything we dislike. Screw taxes, too.

tv licence is for a tv, not because you watch rte

Indeed if it is MediaFlo, DVB-H or live IPTV rather than recording, yes. Recorded video is exempt.
