    http://www.maireland.proboards50.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=mma&thread=1173653169

Took the SBGn road trip North to Belfast today for UFR8 and had one fantastic day. The lads up north were great hosts, with a great venue,

Anyway, enough of my ramblings, here's the results.

Darren McAuley (PCC/UFR)-V-Conner Collins (KMMA), McAuley, 1ST RD K.O. (Knee to the head).

Hugh Bradley (Irish Int. boxer)-V-Paul turtagh (SI). Bradley dominated with superb boxing skills, finishing with a R.N.C. in Rd1.

Peter Lavery (KMMA)-V- Alan Hannon (ULK). Hannon G&P rd1, Ref Stoppage.

Keith Bradley (PCC)-V- Brian Tohill (SI). Bradley RD1 Anaconda choke.

Brian Kerr (CHUM SUT)-V- Darren Hughes (SI). Hughes, judges decision. This was a cracker. Two tough, fit lads. Probably fight of the night.

Mickey Young (PCC/UFR)-V- Navid Youselfi (Hilti NHB Sweden). 1 rd Youselfi Side choke after downing Young with a flurry of heavy punches.

David Lejenas (Hilti NHB Sweden)-V- Steve McCombe (PCC/UFR). Lejenas 1rd choke.

    TITLE FIGHTS.

    Middle Weight Title Eliminator.

Steve Lynch (PCC/UFR) -V- Mark O'Toole (PBS/UFR). Lynch. Corner stoppage due to cuts. This was another cracking fight with O'Toole being unfortunet to pick up some nasty cuts from Lynch's heavy punches.

    Middle Weight Title fight.

Rodney Moore (IMMA) -V- Tom Haddock (AMMA). Moore, 1st rd. Ref stoppage. This was a 50/50 fight, but Moore lands a few heavy punches on a cornered Begley. but Haddock looked comfortable up to this point.

    Lightweight Title fight.

Greg Loughran (PCC/UFR) -V- Martin Begley (PBS/UFR). This was alittle controversial. Begley clearly attempted to head butt Loughran in the first round, to the disapproval to all in the arena. he was deducted a point by the ref. after which Loughran went on to absolutely dominate this one. Well deserved G&P win in the second. Begley IMO should have been disqualified.

    Heavyweight title fight.

Colin Robinson (IMMA/UFR) -V- Karl Roche (SBGn).Almost went the distance, with Karl dominating on the ground for much of the first round. But Robinson looked to have landed a knee to Karls solar plexis at the end of RD1 which Karl never really recovered from. Robinson dominated the 2nd rd, which Karl not being able to do much. Ref stoppage. Had Karl been able to take this one to the ground god only know's the out come then. I'll post this one on Youtube in the coming days.

    Forgot to mention. (late edit)

The first ref. appeared not to have had a good night and was changed at round five. After which the second ref did a really excellent job.

Altogether a really excellent event, with Mark Leonard shining as M.C.

    Who are SI?

No idea Colm, alittle exhaustion and a slight hangover has my mind in a muddle.

'SI' are sudden impact from Magherafelt direction.Emmet mc Nally is the coach up there.Good bunch of lads.
As for the Ref being changed,Jonny and Aidan had already arranged which fights they where taking charge off,it was Jonny's first time reffing and to be honest I was more than happy with him as were all the other guys.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

That must have been nerve wreacking for Jonny refereeing for the first time, and at such an event.

It's always nerve jangling reffing......thats why I took the easier job of fighting!at least when you are doing that you only have one opponent to worry about and not every person in the venue.......as well as every fooker on the internet on your back for weeks........oh I remember the days!!!!!!!!

Yea, I remember my ref'ing days too. Although not an MMA ref.

My first few competitions were terrible, I made awful calls and was hated (and remembered) by every kid, mother & father (at junior events) for months afterwards.

Btw, which fighter were you yesterday?.

fair play to karl doing so well and taking on a british champ in his first pro fight. no doubt the expierence gained will help him in future fights...such as may 26th ;)

I was the fool fighting Alan Hannon!Maybe I should have asked for an easier opponent for a comeback fight but then theres no point in taking easy fights if you want to class yourself as a fighter.

Well done Peter giving it a go, will you be back soon for another one?

I havent thought much about it to be honest. If Iam it wont be at the light welterweight division.Im happier at welterweight,I know its not a great deal of difference but cutting weight was a bit of a worry for me and I didnt need the distraction after being out for so long.I never say never so I suppose I would take another fight in the future.

Question: Did alan get a tasty slam???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 407 ✭✭weemate

    no

Cutting weight is where it's at - a fighter who isn't ripped isn't a fighter!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,995 ✭✭✭Tim_Murphy

Real good show, some great fights.

Alan didn't get a chance to slam becuase it was over that fast. (no 10 seconds like but still pretty fast!:) )

I missed the first few fights but the rest of the fights were all pretty good. Greg was quality, don't know how Martin Begley stayed in there as long as he did.

Tom Haddock Vs Rod Moore was shaping up nicely until towards the end of the round when Rodney starting getting through with some hard shots and the ref called it.

Karl Roche did really well and looked like he might take it in the first round. Colins experience and conditioning starting to come through in the second.

Come on Tim let's see you fight again. Plus it's real fun to train with you when you are preping for a fight!! ;)

It'd be so cool to see you in the ring again. Go on I have to live vicariousarly through you and the others in the club for the next few months!!

Tim fighting again eh? That'd be sweet.

On a completely unrelated note, I hear Mick Leonard arrives back in the country this weekend.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm......

Entering the ring making his comeback by way of peer pressure…

You guys do realise that if I start fighting again I’ll have to stop drinking, start eating properly and actually start training regularly??!! :) :)
All going well I’ll be back in the ring sometime reasonably soon, but not too soon.

Rumour has it that there’s going to be a UFR show in Galway… :) Hopefully we’ll be able to work something out for that? Or will there be an other UFR before that?

    Roper,
Please bear in mind that I was a ref for your last fight and may well be reffing again in the future.

from what I hear Tim,the next UFR is the Galway show.Mind you,are you not due a shot at James Doolin for the belt????????? I was sure you are the number one contender for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,995 ✭✭✭Tim_Murphy

Yes I am, but as far as I'm concerned really I effectively won that title quite a while back so I'm not overly concerned about fighting for it. If that's the fight that happens then great, if not then I'm not too worried. :)

I think it would be a great match up regardless of titles.James is a stand up fighter like yourself but knows the ground again just like you so it would be interesting to see how it would pan out.

Some people are nuts Tim, they just want to see you battered for their own amusement! :D

I agree! I've heard good things about him so hopefully we'll get it on at some point. :)
