I'm afraid it will be otherwise. BOSE are a marketing compnay, their products are bloody awful but they fill a "lifestyle" gap for some consumers. If you want flabby bass, piercing highs and no mid-range then seek out BOSE they will not disappoint!

Try a Tivoli Model Two radio instead, superbly well built and with a very full 'proper' stereo sound - even without the optional subwoofer. They have an AUX input for a discman or MP3 player. They also have a CD player module as well but honestly it's not very good.

Peats stock them (in fact they distribute them) and so do Cloney Audio and Allience Electric in St Gt Georges Street. The model two is about €299 but then you add your MP3 player or whatever. Geeat yokes... I have two of them.

thanks a mill for that, tho unfortunately its mainly the cd player id be using :( which kinda rules the tivoli out from what you've said. anyone have any thoughts on the creative soundworks 740? looks similar to the bose sound wave but cheaper!

The Tivoli is still better than the BOSE or Creative even if you're adding a basic CD Walkman/diskman yoke. A different league altogether.

The Creative Soundworks is alright but it's certainly nothing to get excited over. If you can afford it the Wave Radio from Bose would be noticeably better.

Have the Creative box (Was a Xmas Gift ) ..use it with iPod great sound fills the room very well ,,but I do have to turn down the base a bit.

They do have new models one with DAB radio and one with iPod dock, ,,,these are not available in Ireland but maybe a price drop on the €299 will be on the way.

thanks for that guys. at least on the soundworks you can turn down the bass - the lack of settings on the bose is putting me off it. had a look at the tivoli in peats but not sure its what im looking for, but thanks again for the suggestion.

    Well done, enjoy!
Oddly enogh I've been helping two other people with a similar problem just this week... one is also going for the TIivoli, the other has a spouse who doesn't like it (go figure) and she has to buy a piece of **** mini system <gag>. Peats might be your only option as Cloney don't have any at the moment. Alliance Electric also stock them though.

had a listen in peats but they didnt have the cherry/taupe finish so i ordered it at komplett: got the model two, model cd player and the subwoofer in a package for €600, oh and the all important info - managed to get it in cherry/taupe :D

That's a very very good price. It's like getting the sub or CD for free! That's a hell of a setup then, and you still have the aux free for Mp3 player or whatever... nice one. Wear well as me mother used to say!

I listened to both for a while. I didn't think the bose sounded better than the Creative if anything the Creative sounded better. The Creative over does the bass IMO, and without the bass it didn't blow me away. Was ok though, and can get loud though, and is quite a small compared to pretty much anything else.

Doesn't sound like all of that would be much smaller than a HiFi?

It's a lot neater than four 400m x 400m shiny boxes plus 2 decent bookshelf speakers. It would actually all fit on one shelf.

Bose Wave Music System I am currently trialing Which Consumer Magazine rated it Excellent on Tuner the CD Player as acceptable

I have tried the mp3 line Player and its very good

It get Whichs Best Buy awards

The unit itself is very heavy with a really slim remote control

The Bose sales people said it was made in America another one I called later said it was made in Ireland

Absolute Rubbish its made in Mexico and other parts in China all for 600Euros
People here are recommending Tivoli as a good replacement to it?

which model of Tivoli see www.bose.co.uk

I wouldn't say the Tivoi is a replacement for Bose, it's light years ahead of it in every way. I've previously suggested the Model 2 which is a simple stereo FM radio which also takes input from an MP3 player or discman (about €300) but electrichoney went for the full kit with matching CD player and sub for €600. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=53068435&postcount=14

Comparing Bose to Tivoli is like comparing Fiat to Mercedes. Of course Fiats are perfect for some people.

Depends on the shelf. I don't see there being a huge difference in size myself.

The Tivoli Model 2 consits of 2 boxes about 6 inches wide and 3.5 inches deep. Compared with a 400X400 amp, a 400X400 tuner and two speakers (eeven small bookshelp yokes) there's no comparison, regardless of the shelf. I'm comparing the size of the Tivoli with those units as that's where they lie in terms of sound quality.

I thought we were talking about the the model two, model cd player and the subwoofer.

a poster (electrichoney?) did buy the whole shootin' match but even still teh CD player and Sub are still only a bit bigger than the other two. Trust me, from where I'm typing this I can see a Tivoli model 2 in the kitchen sitting a shelf deep enough for Tea/Sugar caddy and then there's my Hifi which, on it's essential rack, is about 4ft tall and 2.5 feet wide, excluding speakers. the speakers are 1 metre tall and 24 inches wide but thay're not typical of any setup!
Anyway, my point is that you'd have to have 3/4 Tivolis to take up the same space as a 'normal' hifi.

I quoted that post with the 3/4 Tivolis when I made the comparision. I'm only going from the pictures I can see on the web, that link etc. I got rid of my own HiFi because it took up too much room.

boston, the actual units are very small - about 7 inches in width. the picture does make them look a bit bigger perhaps. and when you take into account that you don't need any extra speakers its a huge space saver. i have the model two radio parts side by side and they look very small together. as for the sound - well it's fantastic. i'd really recommend the system if you're looking for something midrange.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,056 ✭✭✭✭BostonB

The two radio units would be smaller no doubt. But when you add a CD player and subwoofer? Thats all. I'd consider one at some point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Slaphead07

as for the sound - well it's fantastic.

That's the bottom line, I'm delighted you like it - it's always a risk recommending something for somebody else but I have to say I'm pretty confident about the Tivoli stuff. Of course it will sound even better after a few months when the speakers soften out a bit, it's not unusual to leave the radio on a music channel when you go out to work or whatever, it just speeds up the progress!

    @Hector's House,

If you check the date of the post preceding yours, you'll see that the last post on this thread was well over two years ago - we'd prefer not to see threads of that vintage resurrected ! If you have a query feel free to open a new thread and ask away.......

A subwoofer is a loudspeaker dediciated to reproducing low frequency sound only, all you ever wanted to know is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subwoofer.

    This thread is now closed....

    Ritz.
