How much is standard mobile phone in Australia? What's the cheapest network and do Australia and NZ share any networks?

They range between $69 and $300 depending on what you want! Or you can get your phone unlocked so it can accept any type of sim and then all you have to do is buy a SIM card in Oz. There about $3. Vodafone is very good (imo) you can get a $49 maxi cap which gives you $230 worth of talk and text and also $20 international calls. The only snag is you have to use it within a month. Also Optus and Telstra have similar offers.

Depending on network, and how long you've had the phone, you call the service provider (O2, Vodafone) and ask them to send you the unlock code. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.

If its a newer phone, they may require you to wait one year for an unlock code. In such a situation, you'll need to take your phone to an unlocking shop, most can do it for about 20Euro. Camden St. in Dublin is good for these places.

Have heard that three is a bit tough to get unlocked, can't say for meteor.
