Schools Shoots

The school shoot organisers mess up again! There was a schools shoot today in Micheals but the organisers decieded to exclude the highest scorer of the day because he had not been to any other schools shoots this year. This archer shot the highest score of the day by over 30 points.

This is not only time that the schools organisers have tryed to exclude specif archers. At the Schools Nationals last year, the organisers tried to exclude 2 archers scores as they were two high. Effecifly these archers are being penalised because of the effort they put into training. This can not be right. Surely archers who shoot good scores should be rewarded not disqualified from wining?

According to both IAAA, FITA and the National Policy for Children in Sport all athletes are supposed to be treated equally. Surely these archers were not treated equally.

Maybe its time for some changes in how the schools competitions should be run? What does anyone else think?

I shot in schools shoots for years, in the later years my scores were usually the highest and I was never excluded.. even when I'd only shot in one shoot for the season.. seems very unfair for the archer. I would have gone mad if they'd ever tried to do it to me!!

    Define "exclude"

Are we talking placing in a higher category? Not awarding them first place? I'd like specifics, if only to satisfy my own curiosity, it's been a couple of years since I've had anything to do with schools archery.

By exclude i mean not allowing the archer to win. There is already categorys in place and have been for a number of years. This is fine, but when an archer is already in the highest category and then is not allowed to win because their score is too high, this cant be right. The archer is under 19 and is attending school therfor should be eligible to win.

I was told that the winner was shooting on 40cm faces, while the guy with the highest score was on 60cm face. I think thats fair

The archer with the highest score was shooting on a 40cm face. All arcehrs in schools who shoot over 500 shoot on 40cm faces. Both the guy who won and the one with the highest score had previously shot over 500.

So just to clarify this.. Were they both shooting on 40cm Faces?

    Here here!

Did they give any reason other than "the score is too high"? If that is the reason then there is a problem! What, for instance, is the cut-off for shooting too high?

That really does sound horribly unfair.

If theres people in the same section shooting on the same target face and one shoots higher then the rest to exclude the person shooting highest would be a lynching offence in the intervarsities and theres no way in hell it'd fly in an IAAA competition.

    Wikipedia

Competition is the act of striving against others for the purpose of achieving dominance

    un·fair (ŭn-fâr') adj., -er, -est.

Not just or evenhanded; biased: an unfair call by an umpire.

(just some basic principles that maybe the organisers should cast thir eye over)

The guy who got the highest score "was not a team player"

He did not go to any other schools shoots so the "brilliant" organisers decided it would not be fair for him to win.... What a load of bo#@ix

If events have been accurately described, then the perpetrators of this discrimination should be discouraged from doing so in the future - can you name the event and the organisers of it? This would be like saying Keith Hanlon isn't allowed win anymore as he is too good

Apparently the IAAA are now going to deal with this issue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 419 ✭✭toxof

They are only going to deal with the situation if a formal complaint is made.

Well its been said time and time again that the schools are terriably orginised and that the people who are the orginisers dont deserve to be orginisers, i hope the IAAA are notified and justice is had.

Has there been any resolution to this? Were the IAAA notified?

    Regards

    Ewan

I beleive it was up to the archer to make the complaint and he dident hence the IAAA can do nuthing about it.

At least the guy can look forward to a more merit-based approach to competitions if they go to university.

I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has to be honest...

I miss shooting such scores sometimes, I wish I had the time to train. Need to win the lotto or something...
