I bought 2 dvd's about the gracies called gracies in action as i've always been real interested in them as i do bjj-after watching this i have lost all respect for them and think there muppets. all it was, was bjj can beat karate bjj can beat boxing-bjj can beat godzilla! it showed 1 fight with an o'k boxer and it was fairly even and did not show the result! 1 other with a boxer! this lad was crap and i doubt he competed boxing, and the bjj fella won easy, it was the way they just claim to be able to beat every body that bugged me, then there was a homemade bonus clip where 1 of the gracie kids fights some kickboxer in a street fight-they where all jeering him and being so disrespectful that i was shocked as i thought they had loads of class, they dont. basically the gracies are assholes and get beaten all the time in mma now as people know how to stop there take downs, i still train bjj but will find new idols now maybe frank shamrock as he'll beat them all easy anyway ..:(

What were you expecting to see? I doubt the gracies would put a DVD out with clips of various fighters kicking the heads off them.

But then, what were you expecting? was it supposed to be an instruction DVD? or a history of BJJ type DVD?

lol @ changing your idol from a gracie to frank shamrock.. Frank Shamrock is a self-hype machine.

Those gracie tapes are old and at the time, were an honest evaluation of their dojo challenges. They aren't the top of the MMA foodchain now, we all know this (even though Renzo school Frank Shamrock even with his 1-dimensional system). But they did introduce an important aspect of the game.

They are selling a product, they are hardly going to cal it Gracies: Win Some Lose Some now are they?

Insulting the Gracies is rather silly they are the creators of a very effective self defense system ,that is an element of modern mma.

Yes they have a hype machine but they also have great fighters:

Royler - better at pure BJJ than MMA

Rickson - was a much better mma fighter than Royce in my opinion but never got any of the great fights that would have cemented his 'legend'

Ralph - tough and unbeated for a whole seven years in various mma tournaments around the world

Renzo - probably the most respected of the Gracies fighting today...he's getting past his best but a more honest fighter you would be hard pressed to meet.

Then there's the legendary Helio: he's admitted to losses, stated that if Rickson is unbeated in over 400 fights then he is unbeaten in over a million...that honesty.

You need to separate their fighting from their merchandise.

Also if you chose Frank Shamrock as you hero you are chosing a guy who quit in his prime and recently returned to fighting against a gracie [renzo] and was disqualified for cheating...he was warned 5 times about punching in the back of the head [3 times] and twice for knees in the back of the neck.

Why do you need a hero anyway?

If you need inspiration then look to a fighter stalent, ability and integrity...that third one's always hard to find...tito's a whinger, chuck's a cheat [thumbs in the eyes...guys...yes he does it...] and even randy left his wife of 20 years when she was pregnant...for another woman

End of the day no one is perfect...

So don't waste your time moaning...learn a lesson...watch the techniques on offer and learn from them

People with something to sell will always say theirs is the best product...

You can view Rorion and his son teaching classes on youtube. and if you watch Rorion and Royce on early instructionals they are teaching the exact same thing.

Why do I mention this?
The fundamentals stay the fundamentals.

The Gracie in Action tapes are old [Pre UFC 1] They are just an infomercial for Rorian's gym and Jiu-jitsu style [then again so was the UFC at that point in time]

Please do not group Renzo with Rorian. Renzo is all class while Rorian can come across like a used car salesman.

Frank shamrock is a bit of a beast in fairness-he's a smug ****er but man can he fight-the ufc are mad to get him on there show, he called dana white and offered to fight on ufc if dana would fight 1 of his up and coming kids then said that dana's not a fighter but a fake, v funny. in return he wanted chuck on his show.

true but my point being that as far as i'm aware dana never claimed to be a mma fighter (as far as i know, i could be wrong?). frank might say he has but that doesn't make it so.

and have to say i found it funny that the OP expected anything different from a GRACIE in action dvd lol

Frank is a delusional piece of garbage. The UFC doesn't want him and in actuality he doesn't want to be in the UFC because he wouldn't be able to hand pick his opponents [This is also the reason he never signed with PRIDE] The challenge was Dana fight Strikeforce promoter Scott Koker [sp?] and if Dana wins he would fight in the UFC for free if Scott wins they get Chuck for a Strikeforce show.

As far as I'm aware Dana White has an amatuer boxing background so do thousands of other men...this hardly qualifies him to fight in mma...well maybe if barry mcguigan coached him for a while

To the best of my knowlegde Dana has one outstanding fight.
A fight with Titio Ortiz, more specifically, a boxing match.
Dana apparently signed this to get tito to re-sign with the UFC.
This is on youtube...go find it yourself as I'm a lazy monkey.

Frank Shamrock was a great fighter 7 years ago, no disrespect but 7 years is a long time to be out of action in any sport let alone MMA...am I right?

Shamrock fought foul and was disqualified against the best Gracie fighting today - Renzo [JUST MY OPINION].

Shamrock left the game - what's he done since...trained fighters and worked in media/acting/guest speaking.

Check out his website the copywriter actually refers to him as MR. HAMROCK through the whole website -now that is just unfriendly....let alone arrogant...I know a little about arrogance....I was a big Rik 'the model' Martal fan

Getting back on topic.

Gracies promote their 'product'/art as the be all end all...anyone with something to sell will hardly say here is my product it's ok...actually it's middlin' to good - ok you got me...it's total rubbish - now that'll cost you 50 bucks...

As for Frank - compared to Ken he's the lesser of two evils
