I've been offered a job with a large company and I'll be dealing with the most advanced enquires (Level 3) within a small team. What salary scale would be appropriate for this position?

I appreciate any help with this, thanks.

Could you provide a little detail on the types of tasks involved?
If you are dealing with Advanced problems, you could possibly command a far higher salery than level 1 or 2 support If its a niche skill set.

Maybe this could give a rough indication.

Interesting, thanks for the link. This is a office based role, answering queries by phone and email on the company's software products. Although I've done a similar job to the one described in your link, this position is not as demanding.

wouldn't be with usit per chance?

Is the software you are supporting stuff like Oracle databases or Business Software products?, as Niche specializations should bump up the salery a bit, as certain software skills are in
pretty high demand from the looks of things.
Take into account that job listing is only one area of specialism.

With regards to level 3 support, you would want to make sure you are getting a decent Deal.:)
Good luck with it by the way.

It depends if it's supporting a specific software package or just general L3 stuff. Specific software would get €45K while generic would be €30-35

No the job's not with Usit, although I'd be interested to know what they're paying. The products I'll be supporting are mainstream consumer software products, so not particularly specialised.

I think it would be good to look around, as their can be huge differences in
    salary between companies sometimes.

General Might not have specialised advantages, but a general skillset might stand to you as a means of showing you can adapt to new technology and are willing to pursue Specialised skills.

To cut to the chase, General would be more interesting work Unless you are deadset on one particular Technology, the General route might not pay as well at first, but give it time and it will be more usefull in terms of experience and pay because you probably know how fast things move, and suddenly a Novell expert may not be as employable as the General IT person who has the ability to adapt and if need be provide specialised knowledge.

    Good luck by the way:)

Feylya if you're still here I'd like to know what you mean when you said "Specific software would get €45K while generic would be €30-35?"

Those salary ranges are exactly what I'd like to know, but can you give me some examples of what you mean? I'll be supporting mainstream consumer products in the security area, it's an area I've particular knowledge of and interest in.

For example, a software package doing PKI would pay round about €45K for third level support.

General Support (Windows, Unix, Active Directory, MS Office, Lotus Notes, VPN, printers etc) would pay about €30-35

Thanks that's exactly what I need, I think I've enough information to make a decision now.:)

I'm also bearing in mind IT jobs (at a reasonable salary level) seem to be thin on the ground right now. So that puts a different slant on it too.
