You could try putting it up on adverts.ie and see how much you get if nothing else turns up.

yeah I know I could stick up an add but I'm lazy and I'd love to walk into a shop with my pc and walk out with a new laptop!!

do any shops sell second hand computers any more ??

    most places are box shifters,

computers are the ultimate consumer product, built in obsolence, plummeting value ( 30% a year - far far worse than cars ), short life ( 5 years design life max )

if a shop takes in you laptop, they then have to wipe it and reinstall the original software again, and check the licenses again and apply the patches etc. it's a lot of work especially when they have to do the drivers. (If they don't wipe the machine there could be legal issues later on) Also since the mahine will drop in value daily they have to sell fast - so that makes the price lower still, they have to support the thing for 30 - 90 days or whatever and they don't know if you have dropped it or not, if it was me I have to run a SMART diagnostic on the hard drive first to see if it could tell me stuff. and the sales people have to be knowledgabe about the product and go through the pain of "how long will the battery last"

And they have to pay you an amount that means with all the above work they still make the same profit on it as on a new machine ( relative to the cost of selling a new machine - think shelf space - time talking to customers )

and the number of stolen laptops is unreal

No I can't see you getting discount off this, other goods like tellys and fridges that don't become obsolete they can offer trade ins on because they have an advantage in taking that second hand TV off the market ( Singer started this crack of killing off working equipment - destroying most of the old sewing machines in the process )

How old and what spec is the PC?
What are you expecting for it?

I find it highly unlikely that any shop would consider selling on a dell...maybe if you bought the brand of PC that they were the franchised outlet for, from them last year or something then perhaps, but as capt'n said ther'e a minefield for resellers to wade through.
Selling on yourself is a much better option....if you're lazy, do what I did and turn the old PC into a basic htpc (mine initially cost me €1200 4 yrs back; I'd have been lucky to get 300 quid for it, so I decided to run it into the ground)
