Ok I want to buy a car seat on ebay. I want to buy one from the UK as the Irish ebay has less options how do I go about this securely without getting ripped off? How do you buy on ebay securely? I want to buy a car seat for my child with side impact. Anyone?

Check the sellers feedback (check the last few items they sold), the length of time they are on eBay and what sort of payment methods they are looking for. eBay protects users who pay with Paypal (online payment site) and some other methods. If you want to post a link to the item, some of us who use eBay often can have a look at it for you.

Nice one thanks for that it is exactly what I'm looking for 9mnths to 12 years. Most of the chairs available that I have found here seem to be 2-3yrs max use.

So If I sign up for 'Paypal' and join ebay and buy a car seat from ebay.uk from mentioned dealer everything will work out ok?

I'm a little concerned about using my card online how safe is it to use your card going this route, have to admit I'm a bit paranoid about my card number being detected and used and all that, am I being over cautious, or is buying online safe? If not what precautions should I take. I have antivirus obviously, but should I get a spyware prevention program as well?

The sellers feedback is good advice as well, cheers.

Ps I want to become a regular buyer on ebay.uk furniture, baby stuff etc I have heard that when you type in your credit card number I should vary the numbers delete and retype them etc to prevent detection of standard card number entry, true or false?
    Thanks for replies.

Yes and yes. I know of more people who've had their cards skimmed at a bank machine or in a shop than online. Online theft these days seem to be mostly Phishing scams.

Anti virus, antispyware and a good firewall are recommended for anyone using the internet. AVG do all three, KasperSky is another good one I believe.

eBay.co.uk, but you should be able to get the same from eBay.ie as the same items are listed.

Once you register your card on paypal you won't have to enter the number again so no need to worry about that. For other sites, I wouldn't worry too much either.

Also, register on paypal well in advance of starting to bid on eBay as it can take up to a month to validate your card with them. All instructions are included in the sign up process so just do that now and then start buying when it's all set up.

Cheers, most helpfull. The fact that it takes a month suggests that good security is involved.

Not if you have electronic banking
All they do is process a deduction from your card and it appears on your statement and you go back to Paypal after they take the "random amount" from your account and also quote the reference on your bank statement and thats it. You are then verified

So if I sign up for online banking the registration process in paypal will be much quicker? Very good. Thanks. Have to say the help and advice on this forum is great.

Yeah because you won't have to wait for your statement to come in the post, instead you just have to keep an eye on your bank account online for the code that Paypal give you, to verify your account.

Makes sense, Thankyou. So the process is:
    Online banking registration.
    Paypal registration.
    Get online Paypal code.
    Shop till you drop.
    Bingo!
    Thanks everyone for the input.
