Where to start?

I've posted this on another forums too...

    Alright everybody!!

I've a few questions for all you people...

I'm interested in starting in some MMA training, now I would like to know what would be the best type to start in?

I should tell you I'm getting on ;) i.e. not a teenager anymore.
I'm 28, 6ft 6in tall, and just over 14st (thats 196lb for the americans) :) I have a fast metabolism hence the weight.

I stopped training in Gaelic Football (like aussie rules or a cross between rugby and soccer) about 2 years ago. I am/was fast and had stamina when training for this so it shouldn't be too hard to get back to it.

So what style of MA would suit me to start in the most?
I'm living on the northside of dublin, so names of clubs for the type you suggest would be a good help too :)

    Cheers

The Northside has me! www.ko-martialarts.com in Glasnevin

It also has SBGN www.sbgnorthside.com in Baldoyle

If you're used to being athletic and fit you'll probably slot in anywhere to be honest. But if its a challenge you're looking for I reccomend Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) which I've found to be the most athletically challenging.

Best of luck wherever you end up.

    Lafors...

Where abouts Northside... there's a good few clubs about!

Best thing to do is watch/take part in a few classes here and there and see if you like it.

We have BJJ classes in Swords and Fairview...but we're not MMA.
Have a look at www.defendu.ie for more info :)

If your interested in MMA on the northside no one can beat Andy Ryan's www.sbgnorthside.com IMHO.

I actually live in the apartments beside where you're based.
I've heard about SBG, supposed to be excellent, didn't know they were on the northside.

    Thanks for the info :)

Off topic ;) Yeah they're very nice, no complaints at all about them, decent size (well my 2bed apartment is) and the place is in a great location.

Look before you leap. Check out the northside clubs. Some may give you a freebie or a discount, so you can try them out.
