So my brother didnt make the grade to get into the Frie Brigade next stage.
I am just wondering is there any other way to get into it, i.e go through college or anything??

Edited to ask is it every two years they recruit? He never did the course that you could do which apparently helps you with the tests, when he found out about it there was no places left.

    Hey there!,

Is it DFB out of curiosity?

The only way in is through the open selection process OR direct entry for the retained firefighters in Swords when that station moved to full time. Having a college degree will help, especially an engineering degree, but if you cant get past the aptitude test then no amount of degrees is going to help.

My brother got through the first round, maybe your brother should find a volunteer fire bridge - bray. they dont have a full force only a volunteer service, it would help bump him for the next recruitment time

DFB usually recruit every 3 years, Tell your brother to join the Auxillary fire service, they operate from most fire stations, they train once a week and go on training camps for weekends 2 or 3 times a year, contact the civil defence head office on wolfe tone quay for more info, He will still need to pass the written test in 3 years time but it will help him with the interview section if he gets through next time, the test has been the same for the last 2 so maybe the same in 3 years time.

Thanks Timmy, Also I am a little concerned that the chances of getting in will be severly damaged in view of the fact that I am not and have never been part of the Aux fire service or FCA. I did know about this being a great help in the interview stage but due to my present work commitments it was never an option for me.

Does anyone know if this kind of experience would put you way ahead of the rest of us or is it just something that helps you in being considered?

the expirience will help you as they will consider you above the rest because the person will have fire practice/training

    check out www.irishfireservices.com
the forum is down at the moment but there is plenty of other info.
