Help with Sky Problem

We have Sky+ and multiroom and on Tuesday I noticed that some of the channels were showing No Satelite Signal Received - not particularly important channels but the two that we would occaisonally use are Living TV and Nic Jnr 2, but this was the same on both boxes. Anyway I called Sky and they talked me through reseting the power to the lnb but this had no affect. So they arranged an "engineer" visit free of charge as we are still in the first year. Anyway he called yesterday and was very thorough, he checked the dish alignment which was OK, changed the lnb, checked all the cable and checked both boxes with a new box and still the problem remained on the same channels. He called his boss who said that the problem could be down to an issue with our viewing cards and that we should call sky and arrange for new viewing cards to be sent, I found this a little strange as why would both cards go at the same time? Anyway he left after updating the software on both boxes saying that if this didn't work then we should call sky for the new cards.

So I called Sky and they said that they didn't understand this recommendation for the engineer, but would arrange for 2 new view cards to be sent anyway.

My problem is that I am not convinced that the new cards will make any difference and I just wondered had anyone here experienced a similar problem and if so what was the solution?

Thanks to all for your help.

    hi lockster
Your viewing cards are unlikely to be at fault it is most likely
more down to satellite dish allignment, poor cabling or an lnb fault in the extreme event it could be the power supply or tuners in the boxes i would suggest u first check your signal quality by pressing services ,4, and ,6, on your remote the signal quality should be at least half way dont worry so much about strength if signal quality is very low then i would arrange for an engineer to call again.

Thank you for the reply, the signal quality on both boxes is above 75%. As I mentioned the engineer checked the boxes, the cables, the alignement and changed the lnb without any success.

Did you try unplugging both boxes again wait for 20 seconds and plug back in i dont think it could be a transponder issue but just to check press services then 4,0,1 and select to get into the installers menu go to manual tuning key in freq 11307 polarisation h symbol rate 27500 fec 3/4 then press search it will show u the default quality for living

I have the same problem - my Sky+ box is perfect, the other box for multiroom is not delivering signals for a lot of channels. The signal strenght is above 70%.

I had put it down to recent storms but if the signal strength is good then is there another answer?

Been away a lot so haven't had a chance to chase it up.

No channels like Living, Sky Sports 1, 2, 3 etc. Was wondering if it was a technical problem and there is a link to these channels like perhaps they are all on V polarity??

    Hi All,

Thanks for all the replys. I have tried the unplugging and reseting the box again with no affect. Our dish is on our chimney so it has a clear line of site with no obstructions such as trees etc. I can't check the manual tunning settings at the moment as the I am waiting for the new viewing cards to arrive, so I can only get the Free to View channels at the moment.

As soon as I get the new cards I will report back.

Are there any power lines close to the house?

I actually have a 38Kv line about fifty yards away!

It is supposed to be a back up for the town.

Is the dish on a pole or drilled to the chimney?

It might be a case of moving the dish up a couple of feet?!

Try this as I had the same problem last week while installing.

No power lines close to the house, but the dish is mounted directly on to the chimney. Would the engineer not have checked whether the it was high enough when he was called? Also why would it suddenly change last week?

    Thanks again

The new viewing cards arrived yesterday and Living TV is back, but the other channels are still showing "No Satelite Signal Received"

I tried the Manual Tunning in the installer menu tonight using some of the frequencies for the channels that i'm missing such as Nick Jnr 2, Bliss and Pop and the same thing happens on them all. At first the screen comes up showing the signal level and quality etc, then the lock indicator switches away from OK and the level drop to zero and then a message comes up saying no signal received. This takes about a second from the screen first coming up. I then tried to add the channels manually using the add channels function, but when I search for the channels using the correct frequencies it just comes up with No signal. I have tried 11343 v 27.5 2/3, 11426 v 27.5 2/3 and 11344 h 27.5 2/3.

    Anyone any ideas?
