Im trying to sort out a messed up install here.x
I want to resize the windows partitiion using partition magic. When right clciking on the c drive it says 53GB used out of about 55. When i go into the drive there is onyl about 23 used when all folders are selected and I got to properties.

Partition magic cant resize the partition either because it thinks its full.

Is there some sort of bug that is making this happen. I also have viewing hidden files on.

Hope you can help. Computer is currently unusable.

all i can suggest is make sure the recycle bin is emptied, and check your virtual memory settings ... maybe the missing space is related to a pagefile ?

Run a Scan/CheckDisk after all temp files are removed/System Restore and Recycle bin size checked-reduced.

be careful - it's not nicknamed Partition Tragic for nothing !

sometimes the index can be screwed up so that the partition is size X but the volume seems to say it's size Y - uncommon but real gnashing of teeth stuff

use spacemonger to see what file sizes are

don't forget stuff like compressed folders, swap files , recycle bin, system restore , hidden restore partition with disk images all take up room you can't see

scandisk may free up some space, - best to run a scandisk and defrag and general tidy up BEFORE resizing ( I like to run contig too so that in the event of disaster the files are less likely to be fragmented )

an alternative to partition magic is to use a linux boot disk and it's tools.
gparted in ubuntu has an option to round sizes to the nearest cylinder - , make bloody sure it is ticked ;)
    for knoppix it's qtparted
both use the ntfsresize utils and after running them XP will do a check disk because it's been told to
