Just heard that at least 100 jobs will go tomorrow when the blanchardstown site
of a documentation and cd outsourcing company shuts down.

It is really starting to seem like it is every few days now that these things are happening.

edit: with these, the 300 to go in motorolla and the 560 in proctor and gamble it is some
    couple of days.

What we are seeing is the first tangible signs of a slow down.

    Fewer job vacancies - http://www.rte.ie/business/2007/0308/fas.html
,slowing house market; not looking very good.

Almost 100 jobs to go in Blanchardstown
    Friday, 9 March 2007 14:05

CD and DVD making company Zomax has announced the closure of its Blanchardstown operations with the loss of 98 jobs.

This follows its issuing protective notice to 100 of its 155 staff in Santry last month, following the decision by one of its customers to consolidate its outsourced activities with a different supplier.

The company has blamed competition from lower cost Asian and Eastern European operators for its difficulties here.

Zomax MD Paddy Burke said the closure was indicative of the global competitive landscape in which Irish based manufacturing must now attempt to operate.

Burke said he is confident of securing the future of the firm's Santry operations.

And there's Pfizer and Alcatel-Lucent to add to this list... Looks like the beginning of the end... :(

And Creative in Blanch as well. And Xerox late last year.

It really does seem like the beginning of the end. Is it really any surprise though given the rise in prices for everything and the outright greed of developers and businesses and service providers (esb, bord gais, eircom etc). Everyone is grabbing all they can off each other in an effort to make a quick buck.

I wish people would see what they're really doing is grinding the whole ecomony to a slow and painful halt....There will come a day when there wont be any money or jobs for anyone anymore - and i fear its not even that far away.

The shortsightedness of it all just galls me....

Well it was on the cards since they lost the Dell contract. To be honest I had considered packing (no pun intended) it in because the money was pretty ****. I just needed the kick up the arse to go and look for something else, well, now I have it.

Would have been nice to have had time to find something before the place closed

Was told 6 to 10 weeks, I am not even sure what kind of redundancy package we are getting.

Being on holidays I was not at the meeting yesterday, **** , I wasn't even invited. Just got a phonecall from supervisor saying "I got bad news for you, Iretex is gone, we got two hours notice"
