Paying Tax on eBay sales...

    Hi,
    Hope this is the proper forum..
    Anyway, I am planning on selling a few things on eBay and was wondering about the tax implications it might have.. Obviously if you had a store on ebay and were moving a lot of stuff you would have to pay tax.. but how strick is the irish revenue system?? Is there a cutoff point whre anything below is considered personal income(non taxable)

    Read recently, might have been the Tribune, that the Revenue are getting a computer system to deal with E-Bay sales. They will probably be after the bigger players but u never know. I know people who make a living from E-Bay and it is probably not declared. Seems the Revenue are starting to target online trading e.g. charging customs duties on cd's etc.

    If you do it regularly as an income, then you're liable for income tax as profits on a trade under schedule D case 1 of the tax code http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/ZZA39Y1997S18.html

    If you do it occasionaly, you are liable to capital gains tax instead.
