Strange Internet Explorer / Outlook download behaviour

    I get a number of MS Word documents sent as links to me each day from an Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2000 email client to my Outlook 2003 client.

    E.g.,
    http://www.somedomain.com/forms/somedocument1.doc
    http://www.somedomain.com/forms/somedocument2.doc
    http://www.somedomain.com/forms/somedocument3.doc

    When I click on one of the links it will open the document sometimes embeded in Internet Explorer, sometimes it will lauch MS Word and open the document in that. I can't determine a pattern to this, it's appears completely random, clicking a link might open in IE one time and clicking the same link again might open the link in Word. The next time this might be reversed! Same with other links. I think it's only happening with word documents as I tried links to pdf files at the same location and these opened every time embedded in IE.

    I copied and pasted the links into the IE address bar and got the same behaviour.

    It doesn't matter which they open in, what I would like is consistencey.

    Also, and this is acutally a bigger problem for me, sometimes (most of the time, again no clear pattern) I am prompted twice to OPEN SAVE or CANCEL, i.e., I get two dialog boxes. Definitely only clicking the link once.

    Any ideas?! :confused::confused: Thanks.
