    ARGH

    Jesus.

This has been a nightmare so far. My new hard drive arrived today.

Took me quite a while to back everything up etc, then getting the first hard drive out of the enclosure was a nightmare cos the screws were gay.

Anyways, I got the hard drive in, booted up with the osx install disk, and after INTRODUCTION and LICENCE, I get to the SELECT DESTINATION scren, only there is no hard drive showing! WTF?

Does this mean the hard drive wasnt physically installed properly? [seemed fine to me]
or do I have to erase whats on it [if anything] first??

When I use disk utility, it is recognising the new hd [western digital]

    This is freakin me out!

    Please help!

Ok i think it might be working. i went into disk utility [not knowing what im doing] and clicked erase to erase the contents of the new hard drive, selecting "mac journaled" or something like that.

    krikey.

Did everything work ok? The new hd should be formatted as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". It probably would have been easier to have "restored" your old hd on to the new one using Disk Utility while it was still in the enclosure. That way you wouldn't have needed to reinstalled the OSX but it's probably better with a clean install.

    Hey Sad Prof.

Yeah, everything went fine, Im back on it now. I wanted to do a fresh install anyways. The main software I use allowed me to copy over my unlock config file, which was handy.

The biggest problem was those damn torx screws, which I never saw in my life before today. I dont have them screwdrivers, so [EEK!] used a plairs to loosen the screws, which eventually moved with a regular jewellers screwdriver.

Im delighted to have a laptop with a 160 gig hard drive. Feels like a desktop now. heh.
