End of key broken in ignition

The end of my key snapped off inside the ignition a few days ago. Been able to get the car started with half a key up till today but it won't turn at all now.
Its an Opel Corsa. Anyone know if its easy enough to take the ignition apart to get it out myself or should I just get someone to fix it for me?
Any idea's what it would cost? Its an old car so don't want to spend much on it.

More than likely you will need a new lock cylinder, and new door locks (if you want them to match).

On most modern cars, once the lock cylinder and ignition switch are seperated, anti-theft systems kick in, so you would need a specialist/main stealer.

You could of course just try get the bit out with needlenose pliers and some spray-on grease.

same thing happened to me a long time ago in a Fiat Uno, I was able to remove the ignition switch at the back of the barrel and turn it myself with out the key! It might work for you if your car isn't too new as you say.

Also if you can get to the back of the barrel if there’s a hole, you might be able to push the key out with something, maybe a long nail with a head for pulling out afterwards.

if that doesn't work, a scrapyard might have a barrel from a scraped corsa or astra even might do.

You should be able to order the exact same unit you have by the code.

A phone call to a main dealer or a locksmith shold confirm this for you.
