(Another) Thomann Question

This may have been asked before, but here goes anyway.

I'm about to complete an order to Thomann. The last gear I got from them came with European (2 pin) mains leads. How do I go about getting the stuff with 3 pin plugs to suit our wall sockets here in Ireland? As I'm buying 6 items that are mains operated I could do without the hassle of having to change plugs or poking my car key into the earth opening :D

Any advice is, as ever, greatly appreciated!

I've had to change plugs each time I've ordered something. You should probably stop using 2pin plugs too if you can help it. The Earth is there for a reason!

oooh a thomann threadddddd

only reason i hate buying stuff ive to power in the EU the fecking socket nonsence, i bought a DC brick from gak yesterday, 20 euro dearer but i get the Uk adapter... + i ordered a few other tihngs that worked out cheaper so it was all good in the end...

anyways, the only thing id do is get a EU>uk apater for it, can u just simple change the end of the plug?

Uh yeah, just cut off the stupid euro plug and wire on a 3-pin. You get yourself a grounded connection and an extra fuse. Youd be stupid not to, for the sake of 2 or three quid or whatever a plug costs.

I stuck a note on the 'add comment/request' box at the bottom of the order form - so I'll have to wait and see.

I've just discovered 3 old PC power cables in a press here in the office - so I'm halfway there :D

The simple answer? Get a power strip designed to take european plugs, change the 2 pin plug on that for an Irish 3 pin and plug all your gadgets into that.

Also, Thomann have started offering Irish plugs on some things.

A few I'd imagine. I ordered stuff from them on Monday. They forgot to tell me they'd processed or shipped the order...

Email them before you place the order and tell them you will only place your order if they agree you provide you with a 3 prong plug.
Other than that, you could try reminding them that krystalnacht is just around the corner.....

They'll just tell you where to go (if they even answer the bloody email).

Theres a page on their site where they actually try to sell the 2pin-3pin adaptors. The skanks.

if they even answer the bloody email.

Too true - I sent an email about this on Tuesday morning - still no response. In the past they used to respond to emails within 24 hours.

A quote from that link you posted voodoo_child

Please note That you are welcome to change the plug yourself as an earth wire is included. However doing this will void your Money back Guarentee and any future money back requests. Also, where a repair may be necessary - the manufacturer may require the power supply as original.

3 more kettle leads needed so.......................

I mailed one of the other German places, to see if they had what I wanted in stock (i dont trust online stock indicators anymore), because obviously i dont want to jump out of one queue into another, but uh... they didnt answer any of my several emails either  so im beginning to wonder if ive done something to offend the (supposedly super efficient, machine-like) peoples of Germany..

if theres any people you dont wana piss off its the Germans... it happened before :-O

or the Chinese but they're a great bunch-o-lads

So much for German efficiency :(

I always thought that those 2 pin plugs sucked from a design point of view..but I guess Europeans are stuck with them at this stage :P

"Get a power strip designed to take european plugs, change the 2 pin plug on that for an Irish 3 pin and plug all your gadgets into that."

Can't beat that really.

I want to buy a piano from Thomann, as advised by Crosstownk in another thread (thks mate). I'm not too worried by the kettle lead (I know loads of people who own a kettle. yoink. :D )
I'm more worried by the customer support thing. Can I assume they will actually deliver the piano if I buy it?
Also, has anyone ever called them? Do you get better support on the phone compared to emails, or is it just as useless? Or will they simply let my preciousss die on me without doing anything?

If they say its in stock then yeah! I mean they're a huge company, so I don't think there's any harm of them not delivering ! I've used them and never had a problem.

Why not call them to double check everything is ok, and good to go. I assume if you're buying a piano you're spending a reasonable amount of money? SO you'd want to make sure things are all in order, and a phone call to them would certainly do this.

I'd just double check that if the piano were to get damaged during transit that you'd be covered for this.?????
Its a big thing to get from Germany to Ireland without marking - i deal with a lot of overseas freight companies and they're not exactly gentle! ;)

You can't assume they're going to use normal DHL etc, cuz it would certainly be a pallet and you'd want to check who they are goin to use ship it.

I've called them before (looking for spare horns for a speaker they supplied) and I have to say they were very helpful - returned my calls too!

However, with my current purchase (still to be delivered) I rang them about the mains lead issue and I was on hold on 3 occassions for about 15 mins each and was then cut off every time - so I just gave up. They still haven't answered my email on this query either, but did answer another mail on a different (stocking) matter.
