New socktet for the 4x4 chips will be the socket F.

AM2 should be forward compatable with the new processors. AM2+ will support HT3 and possibly other features, but any new processors will default back to what AM2 can support.

All that should be required is a BIOS update from the manufacturer.

Socket F is only for the 4x4 platform, which is a complete seperate entity really, and not for mainstream. (and opteron workstations/Servers).
