Anyone know where I would get a House alarm installed on the cheap? House was burgled yesterday so it's about time one was installed. I dont want it to be a monitored system.

    Wow, which house was burgled?

On a more serious note, not meaning to hijack your thread but I'm interested in this too. House is already wired for an alarm so I'm looking for a wired system that I can fit myself, any ideas?

I don't trust wireless systems, and seeing as the wires are already there...

House alarm my ass... it will only ring out if you dont have a monitored / self-monitored system. You can get one that will ring your mobile if it goes off and you can talk or listen to what is going on in the house. You can also switch it on and off via your mobile etc.

Look into Wisdom alarms. You should be able to get one ordered through your nearest electrical wholesaler. But i would recommend asking a few alarm companies if they do something like this system and get quotes. Mine was about €1000 all in and fitted.

Failing that.... buy a big dog.

I got these boys to install mine in Carlow

House was prewired. There was a huge difference in the price they quoted me towards anyone else. Very happy with the service

The have an online quote calculator on their site too.

Sorry to but in, but I am interested in getting a wireless system to install myself (not contractor).

Someone recommended a Yale system to me, does anyone know if this is a good wireless system, and if so where do I get it at the best price?

    Thanks

Ive the yale system ive had no problems with it and its dead easy to install the one i got had a dialer included so if the alarm gos off it rings my mobile as mentioned above. I got it in homebase and found the accessories to be a bit cheaper in atlantic homecare. Think i spent about 5 - 600 overall.

Thanks Kristok, must check out Homebase then (and possibly Atlantic Homecare).

Just one more, the Yale alarm system spoken of was drastically reduced to about €79 in B&Q two weeks ago, and the add on were half price, no auto dialler on this one but that's a small extra. Massive pallet of them in the special offers section.
Alarms and the noise are more to act as deterrant and get rid of the burglers, they don't generally hang around to be picked up once the siren sounds, check the arrest records of phonewatch referrals.

nicelives - which B&Q were they in? Looking for an alarm for my parent's house. It's not prewired so wireless might be the option.

I'd like to get them a GSM dialler if possible so they can get rid of their landline and still hava a dialler (which is crucial for them) - anyone know if Yale do a GSM dialler or one that would work with their system?

Also, any chance the Yale system can connect to smoke alarms and dial when they go off?

My parents have a medium size dog and a cat - do Yale do pet-friendly PIRs?

    Thanks
