    *sigh*
Nintendo have just shot us an email (from a CANNON) letting us know what's coming out on the Wii and DS up to and including the northern summer. Metroid haters will be pleased to know it's nowhere to be seen.

April sees Super Paper Mario, May has Mario Party 8, June gets Big Brain Academy and Pokemon Battle Revolution and...that's it. The rest is mostly filler (read: ports or multiplatform cash-ins) and movie tie-ins. The DS? Pokemon Pearl & Diamond aside, it's just as bad.

So no Metroid until at least September. Wii drought? I didn't think it'd actually come to pass, but with the slim-pickin's on offer on this list, maybe. Maybe.

The full, tragic release schedule is after the click. Luke Plunkett

Pretty f*cking crap line up. When are they going to release some "real" games, not this sh!te aimed at 8 year olds.

With the Kiddies games rant put aside, I'm really looking forward to Pokémon Battle Revolution and Pearl and Diamond.Do those dates include the EU?

    PSP game....

its fairly awful lineup - and remember - that's the american lineup, we will no doubt not get all of those in that timeframe.

We do obviously have Eledees and Trauma Center to look forward to which the US already have.

On a related subject, Super Paper Mario looks amazing. Its starting to feel like the gamecube a bit again. Big killer first party games and little else of note.

I told you it was just a big gimmicky pile of crap for kids and grannies that would offer you no real reason to play it after the initial thrill of a magic controller that you wave in the air. It might as well be a glo-stick for all the thrills it gives you.
    I did say it.
And I got flamed for it.
And so I stopped saying it.
But the Wii hasn't stopped sucking yet......

    No Metroid?

Very very disappointing. I guess the Gamecube stuff I borrowed off my friend will remain in my hands for quite a while...

    Honestly,
its no surprise at all........I was there on launch day for my Wii, but well before that I expected the machine to take a route similar to the Gamecube..
I bought a Wii primarily for the Virtual Console.....then secondly for the Zeldas and Marios of this world..
The Wiimote idea is a brave one by Nintendo, but it will more than likely remain in "gimmick" arena when push comes to shove. The novelty for a lot of people is wearing off, and apart from Nintendo, I can't see any developer integrating it properly into a game design..

The Wii is a good 2nd machine to have alongwith your 360 or PS3 (or both), but when people are looking for those good 3rd party multi-platform games, are they honestly going to choose the Wii version with the tacked-on controls or the next-gen 360/PS3 version ?
It will be down to first-party support again I fear, just like the GC and N64 to a lesser extent.
The only thing in the Wii's favour with the 3rd parties is the already substantial user base installed compared to the GC at the same time. These publishers will not ignore a market such as that.

But there is apparent evidence of Wii demand slowing in Jap/US territories and Nintendo did re-forecast their sales for the next 12 months (need to dig out the link). No surprise there as all systems experience a slowdown, but it remains to be seen whether Nintendo can keep the momentum going.
Release lists like the one above are not the answer of course..

While I think that it is far better that developers take there time and get a game perfect rather than rush it out for a publishers dead line, as happens with so many big games that end up becoming disappointments, it does seem rather bizarre the Nintendo launched a console when so few developers, including themselves, had games ready to go.

Perhaps they wanted to make sure they weren't the last console to launch, considering the limited hardware the Wii has

I seem to remember the same happening with the DS, I bough it a few days after launch but for months there was only the same old launch games in GAME and HMV. Eventually new quality games appeared, but it took a long time.

Nintendo just don't seem to be very good about organising software launches around their hardware launches.

Looking forward to Trauma Center.. but that line-up is absolutely atrocious!

How many movie tie-in game's will be we get this Summer? When are people gonna learn that (with a few exceptions) movie tie-in's are devoid of any lasting gameplay whatsoever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

The user-base issue cannot be ignored. The success of the DS and now the Wii in japan means a lot of the big japanese devel/publishers will be on board. However, it could easily be 6 to 12 months before that bears fruit.

At the moment things are in the balance, if Nintendo can keep the ship and positive vibe afloat until the big third party stuff hits then it could be nintendo's generation.

At the moment you cannot buy a Wii or DS in the US or Japan. They are sold out everywhere. If sales are dipping its simply because there is no supply.

The fact is that Nintendo exhausted their launch window supply of consoles and are now reliant on weekly output. The Wii experienced a 4-5 week drop in demand over the Feb period......waiting lists nearly exhausted, game sales still lagging behind DS, game attachment rate is till not what Nintendo would like etc etc..
Its not unusual for consoles to sell out in Japan post launch, as the shipments are relatively not that big compared to the West, and in Japan you'd probably only find PS3/360 in store.........hell, even the PSP in enjoying a recent jump in sales..
It is a casual gamer machine, so its not totally unexpected, but in general, Nintendo are going to be reliant on these casual gamers for there console sales i.e. anybody serious enough to have one has already got one.
Japan has always been good to Nintendo though, especially in the handheld market, and if there is one market that it may stay in the lead, its Japan/Asia..
Game releases will now be crucial for Nintendo if they want to keep demand in 6 months time and whereas those quirky RPGs etc usually equal big sales in Japan, the western market will be a little harder to placate..

Metroid Prime 3 and Mario have been 4th quarter 2007 games for a long time now so no surprises there.

Nintendo needs to keep the momentum up and it won't with a release list like that. Hopefully it will be just like the DS were we had a big drought followed by non-stop quality titles.

I was thining of getting the Wii but the lack of games keeps holding me back.
I think I can wait a few months and stick to my PS2 for the time being

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,529 ✭✭✭Im_No_Superman

It may not be the best release list but there are still afew stand out titles like Super Paper Mario, Mortal Kombat and Mario Party 8 to keep my interest in playing the Wii as high as ever. Plus i still got to play zelda yet (waiting till the summer when there is no pesky study to get in my way) :)

For Super Paper Mario check this out - http://wii.ign.com/articles/771/771359p1.html

    with my favourite quote being:
"....just about every facet of the game has us both dazzled and clamoring for more." :D

That release list is s**t bar the odd one or two titles.Seriously considering buying that 360 and getting rid of the Wii altogether.

Theres only so many times you can play Wii Sports which is all thats keeping the Wii switched on at the minute.
Bored with Zelda,Red Steel gets the odd play.Wii Play was only bought for the Wiimote.Almost every other game with a decent rating is a "party" game which to me is a cop out by developers.

Mortal Kombat is about the only game on that list Im looking forward to.

Have to say I was really looking forward to more from the Wii but so far its been a bit of a disappointment.

I was willing to give it a few months for decent games to be released but that list takes me up to June/July and theres not much to keep me interested.

I personally didn't buy the Wii that I have at home, my missus bought it. It hasn't been used in well over a month now.

I was hoping there might be some grown up games for it, but that doesn't look likely. I did have an XB360, but I sold that because I need some loud exhausts for my bike :D

Oh man, I was seriously considering buying one. The Wiimote and sensor bar is such a cool idea, if that was on the 360 or PS3 there would be a rake of games lined up to exploit it to full potential for adults and kids :(

I was on the cusp of a decision and leaning over towards buying a Wii but that list is seriously making me retreat :(

    Alien Syndrome
Fantastic 4: Rise Of The Silver Surfer
    Manhunt 2
    Pokemon Battle Revolution
    Scarface: The World Is Yours
    Transformers

All for the Wii. A ****load of games, a few of which seem worth buying. This period is traditionally seen as something of a lean spell in terms of releases, so it's not too bad. Their Christmas line-up will be much more revealing.

I don't own a wii but isn't this time of the year bad for all consoles??? Not sure why people are especially worried about Nintendo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 888 ✭✭✭Kanney

Much better line up, early year is always a slow time for games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

Of that eurogamer lineup I don't expect:

    Disaster Day of Crisis
    Super Mario Galaxy
    Project HAMMER

    Mario Strikers is a maybe.

I would expect Mercury Meltdown, which is a big ommission.

A good few of the other games are already out in the states, which is why they weren't on the original list. And Sonic is already out here.

When someone says "real games" it immediately makes me ignore anything else they write

On a seperate note, the last release timeframe I heard for No More Heroes was summer 07 though I suspect it'll be later than that, and I'm really looking forward to it, didn't see it on any of the lists people posted.

r3nu4l, I know I'm totally repeating myself :) but considering the type of games you like I still think the 360 is a better choice for you right now, you could always get the Wii later on.

    Personally speaking,
that's a very poor list for a multi-format owner(and Eurogamer release dates are vague at best)........of course its impossible to see into the future and say that there isn't some hidden gem in there, but apart from Paper Mario and Mario Galaxy (which probably won't be out in Q2), nearly everything else can go swing..
A lot of titles listed are multi-platform already, and its hard to see the Wii versions rising above with, most likely, a tacked on control system..

Its going to be tough for Nintendo (and Wii owners) as the year wears on, and I don't expect any real quality for another 6 months at least. Hopefully those 3rd parties will get to grips, so to speak, and show real innovation to match Nintendo's bravery..

I'd be more interested to see Nintendo's VC lineup for the year :)

You see this is the period when Ninty should be hammering home, a lacklustre line up for the PS3 a wanning period on the XBOX, they should be flooding the market with all types of games.

Make people buy those Wii's for profit, isn't that the point of the revolution? To get a shorter console cycle with a higher profit maragin. Cause they will be up for stiff competition if and when the other two consoles get into their stride.
