Excite Truck or Need For Speed Carbon?

Right so I'm gonna buy a new game this week for the Wii and in general I'm not really a great fan of driving games and find them a tad boring most of the time tbh. The thing is I played Carbon for about an hour a couple of weeks ago in a mates house and I really enjoyed it. So I'm leaning towards buying it tomorrow or Friday but I have noticed that there's been some good things said about Excite Truck both on here and in the media.

So the question is: Excite Truck or Carbon? One other thing is I will mostly be playing the chosen game in single player (I can't see the missus taking much interest!) and this is why I'm leaning towards Carbon as I think there's a bit more depth to it than ET?

I haven't played Carbon but there's not a lot to Excite Truck at all. 20 tracks set in 6 different settings, 19 of those tracks are different routes through the same 5 settings so bits get recycled all over the place. There are two modes of play - racing individual tracks to gain a fixed amount of points for an "S" grade or Challenge mode : there are 3 challenge types (drive through gates in fixed time ; jump through 5 hoops ; hunt down and ram 5 cars), and only two tracks for each mode. There's not a lot of challenge - I've owned it for 4 days and completed Excite Mode. Super Excite is the same tracks with higher points requirements for S grade. There's no "grand prix" sequence of races (so you can retry tracks over and over again and change trucks at the start of each race), there's no configurable victory conditions, there's no free driving/time trial, bizzarrely there's no stunt track, the unlockable trucks unlock seemingly at random. As a single player game there's no reason to keep coming back to it. That said it's a whole lot of fun even in single player and I don't regret buying it, I just wish they'd made more of it.

Yeah this is what I've been thinking. Ok, I think I'll pick up Carbon so.

What's the control system like in Carbon and how does it compare to Excite Truck? I'm intrigued... and more importantly I still have my receipt....

You're obviously asking HBK that but I'd just like to say I picked up Carbon lastnight and I really like it. I played it for about 4 hours and I think it handles pretty well. There's 5 (I think) different control setups to choose from & I'm just using the default and it's working well so far. Playing with the in-car camera really feels like your driving IMO:)

I bought Excite Truck two weeks ago and I havent played anything else since.

I think it is the best Wii game out at the moment.

    It has hidden depths!!!

Which one is the 4th option? I know my brother has Carbon on his Wii and the controls he likes best is the ones where you steer with the control stick and the Wii remote is the accelerator

I traded NFS in for Excite Truck because I just found NFS dull and boring. I havn't actually played ET yet though. I was really drunk last night and tried to set up a multi player with some mates but it wouldnt let me pick a race. had to do a tutorial first. anyway around that?

I played both and Excite Truck is great fun of limited while Carbon looks no better than the PS2 or Xbox versions but the controls seriously seriously suck.
Essentially there isn't a well rounded racing title on the Wii, not til Mario Kart sticks its oar in, whenever that'll be, until then buy a cheap PS2 and get your NFS kicks there.

Thats the one, with the nunchuck as the handbrake.
