Domain name registration query

Is it legal to register a domain name where by a registered company name is a part of the domain name e.g nike-football.com or adidas-footwear.com Can anyone see any legal problems with such a name that wouldnt be associated with the company

It depends on what you are going to do with the domain names and how the trademark holder handles such matters.

I was pursued by the legal dept of a large car manufacturer over domain names which contained their trademark. As they tend to have more money and resources than you, you do have to ask if its worth it!

Apart from legal threats, they can also take a UDRP action, which can easily end with you losing the domain. Adidas.ie is a prime example:
