New House Build - HE Advice

I'm about to start a self build project and hope to integrate the following:

1M X 1M walk in closet for the following equipment
Sky HD & Regular Sky Box
    HDD/Blueray Player
    Media Centre PC
    Surround Sound Decoder/Amplifier
    Broadband Router/Hub

Video cables then to be pulled to all relevant rooms. First question. How is this handled? e.g. how are the cables terminated and is there a multitude of socket setups that can be used. Like a socket with 2 HDMI connections along with Scart, Ariel & Network etc?

Speaker Cables to be run to the relevant rooms. These will be hooked up to the Surround Sound system in the control room. What I'm wondering about though is how the subwoofer functions in a set up like this? Do you need to connect up a seperate one for each room you need it in?

Net Cabling to all the relevant rooms

Cables for future CCTV setup connected to Media Centre PC so feeds can be recorded and also viewed on any TV in the house.

Is there anything else you can think of that could be added to this set up to make it even better?

    Thanks for any input!

    LFC Fan,

    Few questions first ?

Are you building the house yourself ?
How far is the closet from the area where the speakers are ?

How technically competent are you ? - no offence

This is a mssive undertaking and would need to be taught through throughly before starting.

Before you start draw a map of the rooms and what you want in each room.

It's going to be a direct Labour jobby.

The furthest point will be around 12 metres.

None taken. I work with computers and have a fairly good grasp of networking etc. I wouldn't be doing this work myself though. Would get the electrician to do it but I want to have as much info as possible before handing the job over to someone so I know all my options and don't get stung.

Bascially what I want is just a TV in the rooms with all Audio/Video feeds coming from the central area. I'm fairly ok with the Video side of things but it's the Audio that would be the trickiest which is why I'm asking about the sub woofers. I take it each room would need an audio control panel so you can select which audio feed you want? Thanks!

    Sky Boxes :
I would put the SKY HD box downstairs and the other upstairs in order to ultilize the RED EYE function. ie change channels in other rooms. With two sky boxes you can run 1 TV off each box and 1 TV's per box using the RED EYE. Only one red eye per box can used. For this you will need to run SAT100 to each SKY box and 2 SAT100 cables away from the box. Personally all Video cables should be terminated in the attic using F connectors for ease of access.

    HDMI :
I don't know how long you can run HDMI cable without compromising signal loss. As for a HDMI socket, you can purchase a single gang HDMI socket
    ( about STG50 ). No soldering required.

    Surrond Sound Decoder :
If you are going to put the decoder in the closest, how are you going to use the remote control ? this would also apply for the DVD player ?

    Speaker Cable :
For the Cinema room the speaker cable should terminate near the surround sound decoder. You can make your own termination point using speaker connectors and a double gang face plate.

For other rooms, ceiling speakers would be the best option as these use the ceiling as the sub-woofer. This would take care of the sub-woofer issue.
You may need to purchase a multi channel ampflier to accommodate the other rooms with the PC. Their are various remote panels available to access audio sigals.

    Network & CCTV
Run at least 3 CAT 6 cables to each room and also on each external wall of the house. Use IP CCTV cameras to view these images and also you will be able to view these images from remote locations using broadband. Their is free software on the web to view these on your PC.

    For video singal use RG59
    SAT100 for SKY
For a range of audio/video connectors go to www.keene.co.uk and www.radionics.ie

Their are alot of issues with this project you will need a good electrician who is going to take on this job. Most electrician just want to wire the house for mains cable and nothing else. Most don't have a clue about this type of functionality. Why not go to Smarthomes to get the job done professionally ?

I have probably left some items out
