Grey patch

    Hi guys.

    I'm a male in my early 20s.

About 2 years ago I had the fright of my life over an incident, which also caused an awful lot of stress for a prolonged period of time.

Since then, I've develpoed this grey patch a bit behind by right ear. I can see it in the mirror if I turn my head. Very distictive and very upsetting tbh.

My natural hair colour is very dark brown almost jet black, so you can imagine this thing stands out like a beacon on the back of my head! :(

I guess what I want to now is, has anyone any experience of this kind of thing at my age and what to do about it?

I know people will probably say Colour It, but my hair is quite short, nearly shaved. Surely hair colour needs a certain length for it to work?

    Thanks for listening.

Dude, grey patches/grey hair can be very endearing to the opposite sex. It's very shallow of me to pick that particular nugget to tell you but I get told all the time that women like my grey patch. And I get told that other women like grey hair. Don't worry about it... or... do worry about it and you'll get some more and the chicks will dig you more! :)

    Seriously though, grey hair rocks.

If you cut your hair short normally you could consider a really tight cut (blade no.1 or 0 on sides and back maybe?). The shorter your hair is the less noticeable it'll be.

I'm well on the way to a head of grey/silver hair at 28 but I'm not bothered, I know this is different from your situation.

Can't advise you on the dye I'm afraid

    Hope this helped

    Edit/ What Gordon said.

Have you tired dying it? Then again maybe just get a really short hair cut but that might not be what you want. I really would not worry about it too much. I mean i know it is not the same, but i have a large scar on the back of my head from when i was young and stupid and it bothers me sometimes but i just have to get on with it.

    Hey Dude
Grey hair aint that bad, I have it years and I am only 35.
Have a big patch at the front since I was 19/20.
Look on the brighter side, when you had all the turmoil instead of getting a grey patch, you could have gotten alopecia , and thats a whole lot worse.
And as all above have said a lot of the oposite sex seem to like it.

Yep, no sweat my man, a lot of women like either the whole head as a "salt and pepper" look or an 'endearing' patch of grey. I've yet to hear a woman say that they didn't like it...btw, I don't have grey hair, chance would be a fine thing as I'm balding and have been since my mid-20's...again my gf finds that endearing...providing I keep it neat :)

Don't let this get you down.

I remember going to a Henry Rollins gig and he had a really unusual circle of grey hair on his otherwise black head. Thought it was dead cool.
Don't sweat it, I was 12 years old when a biatch of nun spotted my first grey hair. There are worse things that can happen to you.

    'Thanks guys.

I know things could be alot worse. It's not a bald patch :D

I have dyed it before with good success. But always with a decent, maybe inch length of hair.

I have tried shaving it really close, but even with a 1 blade it still shows :(

Short of getting the mach3 to it, that doesn't work.

I don't have a problem with grey hair generally. I see what ye mean that it can be endearing, but that's for even coverage. This is just a big bright patch!

I'll try Justformen tonight. Let ye know how I get on :D'

man, i'm a chick, 21 and i've started to get grey hair. i can honestly say that grey hair can be very attractive on a young guy, honestly, it is endearing to be honest, if it bugs you though, Dye it, the shortness of your hair won't matter

Ok so the point is that you find this bit of a grey patch upsetting if I read your post correctly. Alot of people here have pointed out to you that its not really a big deal and pretty much it is not a big issue as they have had similar problems etc and what they did to overcome these issues. If this is enough to thwart your concerns let us know or else we will need to dig deeper. I was in a company where the whole lot of us (the department I was in) went grey in the matter of about 2 1/2 years. Now not blaming the canteen food, we all put it down to extreme stress, which we believed caused it. One of my mates did dye his hair but I let mine alone. Dying it is not a big issue though if you go for it.

I'm about 70 per cent grey at this stage and I'm only 28, short hair and gell can hide it but I don't even want to. People like it so I'm happy enough.

    I'm female 22, and I think grey hair on guy's pretty hot.
IMO it'd be better than dying it

OP, it may be a little off-topic but apparently a small patch of white/grey hair is considered to be a sign of a man who will be very successful in life in Kenya. No idea how true this is but a friend was told this by someone who spent a large portion of his adult life there.

So, the answer is to move to Kenya! :)

OP, maybe a pharmacist could give you some good advice. Let us know how the JFM goes. You will prob have to apply it regularly.

A mate of mine has severe alopecia, many small and large bald patches. He shaves his head. I sometimes call him Maphead, because his head reminds me of a globe! He doesn't seem to mind (haven't tried it when he is drunk though!).

My bro went grey at 16. He's still grey, dyes it every now and then, but everyone knows.

A friend has a grey patch on his otherwise brown beard. The chicks don't mind.

    Don't sweat it.

Try not to be so stressed.

I have this on my facial hair actually - I got a bad cut to the face and ever since the hair grows back a white-ish grey where it was. It looks stupid when I don't shave. All in all, it's easy to say ah don't worry about it, worse things could happen, and whilst true it still doesn't change the fact that it's there, and you'd rather it wasn't.

Shortness of your hair shouldn't matter much and you could just keep it cut tight, it wouldn't be so noticable.

One of my friends from school has a little grey patch on the side of his head. He says he got a kick to the head in rugby one day and it damaged the hair follicles.

Now I don't know if that's true but it's a good story to tell girls! I think his grey patch is cute and he certainly has no trouble with the ladies!

It's always nice if somone has something unusual like that about them, it makes them far more interesting then most of the men you meet.

man don't worry about it. I went gray at 13, soon after being hit by a truck. you can imagine that I wasn't to worried about it at the time. It started to bother me after a while but now I'm over it. It actually helped me get into clubs when I was underage. (do you have ID, No I have gray hair FFS) I find that people find it interesting an can be a good conversation starter when I'm out.

Embrace your gray don't hide from it

Thanks for all your replies guys.

I just thought I'd attach a picture of what it actually looks like.

Mountain out of a molehill maybe, but you have to admit it's pretty distictive!

I bet most people who see you don't even notice it - it's a bigger issue in your head than it really is (excuse the pun). My 3-year old nephew has one bigger than that on his wee head, and everyone says it looks cool, don't worry ;)
