    Hi,

I am having some pick-up problems with my Jap Fender Aerodyne Bass.

Currently there is excessive hum and volume issues where i you turn the pick-up fully up it cuts out completely.

    It's the p-style pick-up i'm having trouble with, not the j-style.

If any on you could recommend somewhere decent for repairs (preferably around city centre i'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks

You might have a dodgy volume pot. Just have a look in the control panel and make sure all the wires are in place, that there's nothing loose in there. Have yu done any soldering before?

A very small amount, my soldering experience is limited to patching up some dodgy leads. I am not around my guitar at the moment, I checked the wiring recently and everything seemed to be ok. I'll have another look this evening.

If you're confident enough, you could try replacing the pot, basically just removing the old one and soldering the wires identically back into the same spots on the new one. The Aerodyne should have 250k pots which you can pick up easily and inexpensively on most guitar shops and the likes of Peats, shouldn't cost more than a tenner at most.

Probably a good idea to drop it into a guitar tech.
It could probably do with getting setup anyway.

I've just dropped my Jap Fender Jazz into the Guitar Workshop near the South Circular Rd.
Got my G&L L2000 done a few weeks ago.

It's about €100 including new strings.

Why would you pay someone a hundred quid for an hour's work, at most? Seriously, the best thing you can do is learn to set up and care for your instruments yourself, you'll save a fortune, use it to buy another one. :)

€100 is a mental amount of money to pay someone to set up a guitar, especially given the incredible amounts of thorough setup guides available on the web. It has never been easier to safely learn how to maintain and setup an instrument.
