    Hi,

I've applied for a job, one I'd really like. I'm just wondering how long is it normal to wait for a response after the deadline for applications for the post? Even if it's a "P.F.O." or rejection, the wait is killing me!

I had to wait 2 months to hear back from the company I now work for, when I got the call I couldn't even remember applying for the position! :)

I heard back the same day of the interview. It all depends on the company and how many interviews they've conducted.

I went for a job interview in a company we'll call "Banana" for names sake. 2 rounds of interviews. First one went well ,told me they'd be back to me to me soon. Waited 4 days and they finally got back to me asking me to come back for a second interview. I went back for a second interview, which seemed to go okay.

I waited 4,5,6,7,8 and finally 9 days. no word. At this point I admitted defeat and emailed them the following:
    email wrote:
    Dear Sir/Madam,

I applied for a Banana picker position in your company and attended an interview, which was nine days ago from today (13th February). I have yet to hear any feedback from anyone at Banana and therefore I’m assuming there is no interest. I thought the interview went rather well, and I am just emailing to request feedback from the interviewer (via email) if that’s possible.

    Regards,

    Trilla.

next moring they offered me a job! Gets better... in the middle of those nine days I applied for another company, lets call them "Strawberry". It was also a two round interview process. I attended the first round, and in the mean time was offered the Banana contract. I waited again nine days for feedback from Strawberry, then sent the same email with the details changed. Next morning I got offered a job there. Was told I impressed greatly and there was no need for a second interview!

If I impressed then why the hell didnt they get back quicker! Company's can be weird man.

Thanks for the feedback - it's my first itme going for a full time, salary based post college job.

Basically the job required you to click a link on their website to send an email to register interest in it. Sent the e-mail with a C.V. as a Word attachment. Do e-mails fro mthe likes of gmail of other web based email accounts get filtered as spam?

Regarding the filtering I think you'll get your email through...it will be sent to a contact@company.ie address and prob wont be filtered out

It's been a week now, still no word - may try an email like the one you did soon. Wan't to seem eager and not pushy though!

I work in recruitment and there can be lots of issues that delay an application.

All cvs have to be screened and then the best ones are brought in for an interview. All others are then rejected. The length of time it takes really depends on the company and their procedures. Sometimes there are delays that are out of the recruiters hands. Sometimes they wait until the end of screening/interviewing to reject candidates.

There is no harm in sending an email. I think it lets the recruiter know that you are still interested in the position and reminds them to follow up. Some people apply for jobs in 100 different companies and don't know which job ou're talking about when you ring and say what company you work for. At least you really specifically want this job.

Just drop them an email saying that you are still very interested and what is your current status. As long as you are professional about it, no recruiter will mind that. You should get feedback one way or another. Any good company/agency will let you know.
