I have been a long time lurker in this forum and really enjoy alot of the insightful opinions of many of the members. I have learned loads from all of you, but I have also acquired something that I did not expect.

    GAS !!

Now I may have had small doses of this in the past, but I have managed to overcome the desire (in most cases)

    I need help.

I need someone to talk me out of whipping out the credit card and picking up this beauty.

Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany Electric Guitar

I can get this shipped for free to my fathers place in the States and I can collect it when I am over this summer.

The conversion rate (euro to dollars) is excellent at the moment.

    No Vat to worry about

53% off the suggested retail price

Someone talk me out of this PLEASE !! lol

    Ok...;)

That looks pretty crappy, like something you'd knock up in woodwork class in school. And the fact that Gibson are knocking them out so cheap means they've probably skimped on the oul build quality. You'd likely cut the hands off you with the sharp fret ends... actually you'd probably be lucky to come out of the whole thing alive.

    Go Japanese!

Buy it. Only live once :D

Alright, more reasoning for getting this (in numbers)

    1) It's 53% off

    2) 31% gain from the conversion of euros to dollars

    3) 21% VAT that I will not have to pay.

That is 105% !! They are practically paying me to take this guitar off of their hands.

If only the real world were so simple. LOL

Ah no, he asked us to talk him out of it, so i did my bestest.

But seriously, if thats what you want, go for it, we all gas after different things.

Just be aware that its a dangerous, slippery slope. Once you start giving into your GAS urges, theres no going back...

There's probably a very good reason it's so cheap. The big G on the headstock doesn't mean it's actually a decent guitar. They might have some in Waltons, I'd definitely say play one to get an idea of just what you're buying.

You will have to pay 21% VAT and 3% import duty when you get the guitar from America (assuming you're getting it shipped to Ireland). Personally, I wouldn't touch it.

    LOL.

FWIW:- The LP Vintage mahog got some very favourable mentions in the Misc forum on the FenderForum.

    Link

Seems like excellent value to me. You should maybe factor in the cost of some fret finishing. You could also look at a second-hand one for even better value.

Anyway - what did you expect anyone to tell you on this forum, FFS? There's only one possible cure for GAS - buy it quick ! (and that cure does not last very long)

I have tried but believe me, I cannot think of one good reason to not buy that guitar. Don't expect too much from it, but it should be worth the money paid!

I think it looks nice... At least you can see the timber/grain pattern with that finish so you know youre not getting a 10 piece neck or anything... Its Cheap... (about €500??) You'd easily sell it for €700 second hand here if it doesnt work out... now if it had regular sized p90's in it i'd be all over that... BTW the neck is more than likely a tree trunk.. (im used to 60's fender necks) so that might be something to look out for.

Yeah, the taxman's gonna get you.

You'll have a nice man call up to your house in an An Post van & tell you to give him a wodge of cash while he holds your guitar hostage in front of you.

You need to add on the price of Shipping, Duty & VAT before you get too excited.
Have bought a good few things from the U.S.
I always allow for VAT & Duty. Gotten away without having to pay it a couple of times but you can't rely on it.

He's not getting it shipped here, gents.

    Screw it so!

If your in the States I'd look into the huge 2nd hand market.
Spend the same money & get something REEEEEEAAL nice.

The case is nice. Buy that and get a nicer guitar when you're in the states to put in it.

NICE!!! i want that, but in White.... :)

Say one was to get that shipped to Ireland. What would be the total price to buy it with the added tax? Do I just add 21%?

Because that sounds like a sweet deal. I know I should rely on the fact that it's only a label on the headstock but a Gibson Les Paul for that amount...?

    I'm tempted...

And in all fairness an SG looks better with the trapezoid inlays

rock solid tuning, great access to the upper frets that most guitars can only dream of,one amazingly versatile pickup thats lively as hell because there's no neck pickup magnetically dampening the strings? yes please!
