Anyone know what time before your insurance is up should you get your renewal notice, is it 3 weeks?

    Just renewed last month myself.
I received the renewal notice and quote in the post in January, about 4 weeks prior to renewal date.

You should just phone your agent and ask them is the quote done yet. Sometimes they just a bit lazy. If it done and hasnt yet been posted, they can tell you how much it is for then u can start shopping around.

Isn't there some legal obligation on them these days to provide a quotation, along with a written statement of no-claims bonus level, at least 4 weeks before renewal to allow you time to shop around elsewhere for a cheaper deal?

I think by law these days insurance companies are required to send you your renewal quote at least 4 weeks prior to the current policy expiring. This is so that you have plenty of time to shop around for a competitive quote.

I found it to vary between companies. My last one was a good 4-5 weeks before policy expired, the previous company to that it was 1-2 week notification. I suppose they had hoped that I wouldn't bother or didn't have the time to shop around.

By the way I'd recommend Britton insurance. They quoted me half of my renewal quote. I've full no claims and driving with a full licence for the past 12 years. My renewal was $650 after I complained, Britton quoted me €350

This blog says: "Your insurance company must make sure you get a renewal notice at least 15 working days before your policy ends."

15 working days translate into 3 weeks. The blog is run by insurance company FBD, so presumably they know what they are talking about. :-)

I had my car insurance provided by 123.ie for the last two years. Their renewal notice arrives just one week before the policy ends. When I changed cars, it took them 3 weeks to get the disk out to me (legally required: within 2 weeks). When I asked them about the outstanding disk, they pointed their finger at the insurance company (Travelers). When I rang Travelers, they pointed their finger at 123.ie...

All the above made me wonder what it would be like if I ever had a claim... So I have just renewed with a different company.

I just got a quote from a company called Arachas they are in line with other quots I've gotten but on their policy I can drive other cars fully comp yo to 2.5ltrs or 40,000 over that it's 3rd party cover. It also allows anyone with either full or provisional with ages between 25-70 to drive the car fully comp.

Oh I received my renewal notice on Tuesday and it's not due for renewal till the 12th of March.

True but most quotes are only valid for 30 days or even 15 in some cases
