Has anybody been to Luxor in Egypt for a holiday? Any feedback? Is there much to do/see? What's the typical age group? Weather?

Yes, it was fabulous. We were there in June and it was rather hot however it's a dry heat so not bad. There's some stuff to see - make sure you see Luxor Temple at night as it's magical when lit up, however I wouldn't go to Luxor for a holiday. I'd incorporate it into a trip to Egypt. We spent 10 days in Dahab before travelling to Aswan. Spent a couple of days in Aswan including a trip to Abu Simbel before catching a felucca to Luxor. After two days in Luxor we went to Cairo where we stayed for a week including quite a few day trips. Alexandria was next on the itinerary followed by Marsah Matruah (most gorgeous beaches/water I've ever seen) and then Siwa Oasis including an overnight safari into the desert before heading back to Cairo and departing. Spent a month in Egypt in total and would love to have stayed longer.
That said, I've friends who have booked a resort in Luxor and spent one day in town checking out the place and the rest of their week at their resort. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves however it seems like a waste of a week in an amazing country to me.

Spent a week in luxor last October , and loved it , theres no end of things to do , there s the Valley of the kings , Valley of the queens , Karnak temple , Luxor Temple , Nile cruises , Balloon trips , etc.

We spent a couple of days relaxing by the river in the hotel , Then took a trip to Cairo for the pyramids , back to luxor and toured all the temples etc. All in all a stunning trip , no complaints.

went a good few years back. roasting hot.

valley of kings and queens was great. I would recommend somewhere nice to stay, spend a bit extra, well worth it. and stay away from the cruises.

the amount of people who got violently sick on them was scary.
