Hi, I have just applied for the NZ working holiday visa online and it seems that I need an Xray from a radiologist? Does anybody know if this is the case or whether I have filled in the form incorrectly (I'm Irish).

    Any help, greatly appreciated.

For a working holiday visa you don't need the x-ray. I'm over here now on a working holiday visa.

Nah, no medical is needed! In wellington now!

Also once u pay the processing fee for the visa it is nearly instantly granted, the site will not really tell u that the application is complete and accepted but it is.

Spent 3 weeks wondering why the hell i hadn't got any confirmation email telling me that it was accepted, had to ring embassy to get full info! :)

Main tips - people friendly, food cheap, weather is all over he place but brilliant, wellington great, auckland boring!!!

    Have a good trip!

I agree with all of the above, apart from the wellington bit. I haven't hit there yet.
NZ is a great country. Don't come here expecting to make a fortune, wage are less than Ireland. A great country none the less.

I'm glad to see people are enjoying themselves in NZ.
I'm heading over to Wellington next year with my BF, who is a kiwi.

Quick question about the working visa. How strict are they that you don't take permanent employment? Because I'm going over with the bf who will be doing a masters we won't be travelling around, we'll stay in wellington. Will the visa restrict me at all when I'm looking for a job? I'll want something similar to what I'm doing now (Hr/recruitment admin) as opposed to waitressing or bar work. Will places hire you for more than the 3 months stipulated in the working visa scheme?

I have had problems gettting employment with some companies because of the three month thing. When I did find a job I was only working partime, two days a week, I'm now up to 4-6 days a week.
It will be tough to get a regular job because of the part 3 months aspect. I would suggest maybe looking at a recruitment agency and try to can temp work here and there through them.

Thanks, I reckon temp work will be the best bet then. I made the mistake of looking at temping salaries though and they came up $15 and hour. I worked out this is €7.50. Got a bit of a fright until my bf pointed out the cost of living is halfed there. Nevertheless, I am saving the pennies hard to bring as much money as poss over!

The general minimum wage here is about $11/hr (e5.50). That is terrible by Irish standards, not much better by NZ standards but it is possible to live on that money and live in the city at the same time.
The cost of living is cheaper here, much better than Ireland for most things.

Getting work can be a hassle. I was lucky as i'm in the IT field and got a full time job on a support desk in about a week.

On $19 an hour which is pretty much the average wage here.

If ur looking for work in IT and living in wellington then go to Sytec. Its where i work and it has a high turnaround so they are always looking for people.
