I work for a US company and our main server is based in Florida
The other evening while logged on to the company network through VPN i tried to load GJP
GJP refused me access as i was apparently an American !!!!

I do not play from work bu i imagine that would not be possible for anybody who works on a US server from now on

My other big concern is that I travel maybe 8 weeks a year in the US with Work. this is a lot of evenings bored in a hotel room without Poker is there any way to clarify my self as a non US user and play while connected on a US ISP

    Yes.

You gave the answer yourself, actually. Simply have a computer here in Ireland and VPN to it.

There are loads of vpn and remote desktop tools you can use.

They can be a pain when you don't have a very good connection in the States.

Don't forget you can play Full Tilt (and probably some other sites) from anywhere.

i was planning on spending the summer in the states,

but i don't wanna give up poker as my means of income.

do full tilt still take money from americans?

how does the remote thing work? (i know nothing about computers)

    It works as follows:

You need a computer that is always on via broadband. Since poker software is usually very simple any computer running Windows XP will do. Install the remote desktop software of your choice on it (*).

Then from the USA, using the remote desktop software you can "take control" of the computer here. You'll get a window that contains the actual screen of the other computer and when you move the mouse and click, the same move and click will be performed on the other computer. Same with the keyboard. Thus, you can now play poker on the computer in Ireland, whilst controlling that computer from the USA.

As far as the poker site is concerned, you are playing from the computer in Ireland. And in fact, you are. The poker software is loaded in Ireland and not in the USA, thus all is legit, even though you are physically in the USA.

(*) There are several options, live VNC, PCAnywhere etc. For more info about this post in the nerd channel here on boards.ie :p

yes Full Tilt accept american customers. I'd imagine there is a proxy around that would let you play rather than having to go through the hassel of VPN's etc.
