Make sure its not configured a DHCP Server
Check your nic Card and driver
    Ping Your Router
    Check Your brower settings

    Its usually something simple :)

thebourke - Not answering one set of suggestions makes new ones less likely...This is relevant information, namely finding if your IP setup is correct.

ok on my host machine...(win xp)
i have the a static ip address with dns, dhcp enabled.

On my virtual machine(windows 2003) what ip address should it be set to..a different one or the same ip address as that of my host.
i dont have a router just an external modem.I have tried to ping from my virtual machine and it timed out....

In the Virtual PC Manager, highlist the image (guest OS) and click settings

Click Networking and change it to the adapter on your machine that accesses the internet. Click Ok and start the virtual machine. This will allow the virtual machine to use your nic as its internet route.

I usually does this on a DHCP network so i am not sure if it will perform the same on your static ip address but it should be ok
