Channel 4 :not all programmes allowed on Sky?

Apologies if I have missed this, but are Ch4 not allowed to
show some of their programmes on Irish Sky?

The sopranos was just starting and then it went straight to
'this programme is not available' in an information splash screen
    (code 8).

Have seen this up before since Channel 4 came on sky but didn't
realise it corresponded exactly with the start of some shows.

Anyone any more info on this?

mods, please lock other thread bumped to top...

Practically all US programming is blocked as RTE have the irish rights etc..

It appears many Irish sky customers have fallen for the sky spin doctors as channel 4 is on the Irish Sky EPG but with some US programmes and US films blocked

In mid 2008 channel 4 will be fta on digital satellite but I say if you are a Irish sky subscriber you will still get the channel4 with some us output blocked but not for non sky subscribers who will have the default channel 4 like the default bbc1 london etc

if it is going to be fta, why would Ch4 pay for encryption?

Channel 4 is just clearing the decks for going fta in 2008 it can't rock the boat with its us rights holders

The bbc lost the rights to a few programs like 24
when they went fta. It will be the same for channel 4.

BBC did not lose the rights, as result of FTA, they were outbid. Not same thing.

No programs will be blocked when C4 is FTA, as simply removing the card would restore any attempt at blocking. Unless a program is blocked ENTIRELY on satellite EVERYWHERE.

fta keith, tell me when Channel 4 announced that it would be FTA in 2008?

It is quite possible it will do so, as Flim4 is FTA now, but it has not been confirmed that Channel 4 will follow.

It's not gospel, so quit spreading this dung around.
