Ok put this here cause i thought itd get the best response but as always mods feel free to move if required.

Anyway i bought an ipod today of e-bay or at least i think i did. No i didnt get scammed, its just the utter confusion of paypal.

As it was my first time using it apparently i had to sign up.Which i did, i validated my e mail and everything else but now it says i have to "Enter my Expanded Use Number". Apparently they charged the credit card 1.50 and that i have to send em back the number that is shown in the description on the credit card statement. Only problem is that the seller requires payment within 48 hours and it apparently takes a minimum of 3- 4 days to get this number and thats using online banking which i dont have.

    So basicly, heres my questions.

    1. did my order go through(doubt it)?
    2. any way to get around this(doubt it again)?
    3. how do i relate this back to the seller?
    4. Should i just cancel the order and reorder as soon as i get the number?
    5. How would i go about number 4 if its the proper coarse of action?

How much are you trying to send with paypal? AFAIR they alllow you to send up to a certain amount as unverified.
Your only problem may be with the seller...he/she may not wish to send an expensive item to an unverified address (it will state this someplace in the auction listing)

I made the exact same mistake as you about 5 yrs back (funnily enough I was buying an mp3 player as well; 128mb lol) and the seller was understanding and agreed to forgo her policy of not shipping to unverified paypal addresses.

The expanded use number only comes on the paper CC bill...online banking won't reveal it IIRC. Try mailing the seller and asking how to proceed.....like I said I think paypal will allow you to send about $500 as a n00b

Just contact the seller and let them know you made the mistake. The limit is $500 as mentioned and also you might not be protected with Buyer Protection as you are unverified.

You're not using a 3v voucher by any chance, are you?

    >> 1. did my order go through(doubt it)?
Yes, but nothing will be sent till you pay for it.

    >> 2. any way to get around this(doubt it again)?
Eh? Pay or don't, no other choice really.

    >> 3. how do i relate this back to the seller?
Press the contact seller button. Explain that you're waiting on the verification from paypal and ask if they can wait another few days for payment. The code should show up in online banking too in a few days.

    >> 4. Should i just cancel the order and reorder as soon as i get the number?
You can't cancel an eBay order as eBay isn't a shop. You have a contract with the seller and only they can cancel it. You can of course not pay, but this will result in a non paying bidder strike against you and negative feedback. This being your first action on eBay, you may as well walk away if that happens as nobody would sell to you after that.

Best thing to do is contact the seller and ask for some leniency in the payment time, or try to send the unverified payment.

    >> 5. How would i go about number 4 if its the proper coarse of action?
Contact seller. You can do all that through "My eBay" when you log in.
