I always had one or two plastic pieces of crap from my week holiday in Spain lying around, So now my chance to buy some proper equipment has cropped up and im here to enlist the help of ye, Because i can't do it on my own

This weekend i'll have about 200euro or so to spend on a gun, So if anyone could point me in the right direction and show me a few examples id be very :D

Well I think for 200 euro you will have to stick with the cheaper clones (CYMA). The cheapest Tokyo Marui AEG will cost you about 190-220 euro and that's without shipping costs and the VAT that Customs will add.

I don't know very much about the CYMA clones, so I'll leave it up to others to advise you on them. However I believe that they are not as good quality, so you may want to hold out until you have about 300 euro and get a good Tokyo Marui AEG.

If you do end up going for a clone then the Jing Gong G36C and Styer AUG are two of the best, the CYMA 031 (AK74M) is another good one. As crazyrabbit says most AEG's will run you around the 200-220 mark excluding shipping and if you get charged tax you could be talking another 40-50 Euro.

    Thanks for the info!

I've seen various guns for alot cheaper around 100 and even cheaper to 150 and such... useless??

Cosmetic side of things for some reason matter big time to me, As i wont be using it in sport or anything just targets in my back and whatever.

Where would i find a heavy and metal pistol that looks the part and is half decent too?

Are all these aegs metal? as plastic doesn't really appeal to me, But i suppose beggars cant be choosers!

Sorry about all the questions but i'm clueless

All those sub-€150 guns are useless. They won't last long, don't fire very far and you couldn't hit a elephant at 15 feet with them.

Full metal airsoft guns will cost you....alot. Think €350+ at least.

Tokyo Marui (TM) are mostly metal but have some ABS plastic parts. ABS looks fairly metalic unless you inspect it close up, so it's fine.

I think that CYMA AK47 clone might be a good choice for you. But I'm not sure on cost/shipping/vat etc.

Oh, and are you looking for a pistol (AEP) or an Assault Rifle (AEG)?

Not true! The JG G36C is more accurate then my TM Beta. The area where clones fall down is lastability, they'll suffer failure quicker then the more expensive AEG. That being said I've heard of CYMA 028 outlasting TM AK47's before a failure. The clone market is changing. In the last year we've seen an upturn in quality. They know that most Airsofters aren't going to buy an LPEG so they're improving the guns. Most newer clones can actually be brought up to around the standard of the big name brands with very little cost, reshiming and so forth. The problem is you have to know how to do it. There is the risk of getting a lemon from the factory like my JLS SCAR had to pull the motor and reset it to get the gun working. It's a bit of a gamble but for the lower price it's not too bad.

I would go for a high end AEG first, TM, CA, etc. If you then get a clone that has problems it won't bother you as much as you'll have a reliable backup.

I guess the reviews I read about the sub €150 clones were about the older, lower quality clones.

Since I only own TM guns, I'd say go with Fiach's advice. He knows what he's talking about.

I've never fired a TM so I don't know what it's like, but I have a CYMA CM028 and I love it. Replace the magazine though.

Yeah, my CA M15A4 Carbine is almost all metal. It gives the rifle a nice weight.

Some of the CYMA airsoft guns look pretty good. I'm thinking about getting one of their AKs.

Tokyo Marui guns are notoriously almost all made from ABS plastic with few metal parts! Usually just the upper reciever and rails are metal.

However the difference between Marui ABS and other cheaper brands is that Marui ABS is perfectly cast and incredably strong...other brands, not so much.

Just to add to Harekins point. Although it may seem like good advice to go out and buy a good clone, you will eventually have to replace some of the parts inside the gearbox or on other areas of the gun. It does vary from gun to gun, and some may get good clones, some bad. But for a starter gun, I wouldn't buy it unless you are confident about opening the gearbox incase something fails. Tokyo Marui guns are famed for their reliability, and are an excellent starter guns manufacturer. Add to this the fact that you can add new parts to your TM later on when you get familiar with the gun, and your on to a winner.

However, I would only recommend getting a clone if:

    a) Your willing to open up the gun later on and fiddle around with the mechanisms Or,
b)You know your way around airsoft guns already, and your using it as a base gun.

    Just my $0.02 :)

Classic Army AEGS are very realistic, they have metal where the real guns do and plastic where the real ones do.

Take the G36 and Steyr AUG, those guns have a lot of polymer (plastic) in real life.

Even pistols have a lot of polymer. In a Glock only the slide is metal, same with the USP.

I have a full metal KJW P226 that weighs 1.1kg. The polymer TM P226 weighs 730g or so. About 3/4 of the weight so polymer is not always a bad thing.

Some of the metal airsoft guns, the KJW Sig 226 for exaple, actualy weigh MORE hen the real steel guns.
I found the TM ABS glock was a nice weight. not to light that it feels brittle and not to heavy that it weighs you down.
