Has anyone had any experiece with Freecom?

I really like the design of their products, they look minimalistic and slick.

I'm not sure about the quality/company itself though, they've been around for quite some time, but I've never seen anyone actually buy their products.

    Why is that?

    I'm contemplating purchasing this...
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Freecom-Datatank-800gb-USB2-0-FireWire/dp/B000JU7I2O

But again, I can't find a single review on the web.

never heard of them myself, ive bought 3 hard drives myself over the years, used komplett.ie for them, seemed to be decent prices and quality products, and a lot of feedback/reviews there. also a lot of "recommended by us" products for harddrives etc.
im sure you could find the Freecom hard drive on komplett.ie and see the feedback for it.

I have an old Freecom external CD writer, been working fine for years. Also have a 60G 2.5" external disk, also working fine.

The drives in the box will not be made by Freecom anyway. The one I have has a Hitachi disk in it.

I have an external Freecom 400gb and external portable Freecom 60gb and an external Freecom DVDRW and all are excellent.

The HD in the 400gb is a Samsung.

    I would recommend them 100%

I got the Freecom 400gb in PC World a while back - sometimes thaye take you by surprise and have really good products at great prices - €139 for that one.

Thanks for the input guys! received a dual storage external drive(Freecom Datatank 800GB) today that I ordered from Viking Direct.

I have to say I'm impressed

    1. The design is great: minimalistic, sleek, and sturdy.
    2. Unlike many other similar solutions, this one offers RAID 0/1 AND JBOD
    3. Most important of all, it actually works with XP without the need for extra drivers, I was going to buy Western Digital Mybook Pro II at first but this exact thing kept me away from buy it, it needs WD drivers to work.
    4. It says "Designed in Germany" and I LOVE German design and engineering. :D

The only thing I can find wrong with it, is that, there are no separate drive status lights, which means, when using RAID 1, you can't be sure the other drive is actually writing.

Also Norton(PowerQuest) Partition Magic, does not recognize it(it just displayes the drive/partition as BAD), but Acronis Disk Director works with it fine!

Delah, this one is using Samsung drives too.

I also noticed that their mobile(2.5") external drives are BUS powered, which is awesome, since I've rarely seen an external enclosure(2.5") that is powered only by BUS(almost all of the ebay ones need an extra USB plug to draw power from it)

I really like Samsungs;) , hate Maxtors..

The 2.5" is brilliant and just as you say are BUS powered which is a real plus. I've had that one (2.5") over a year and never a problem with it.
    Freecom FTW!
