    Hi All,

The other week i was playing a soccer match and i accidentally got an elboq to the face, busting my nose open and causing it to bleed like a tap! so i went to the hospital to get an x-ray done on it only to find out that my nose is in fact broken (minimal displacement). The hospital are going to send me a letter out with a date to come back and get it clicked back in, but the only thing is is that the doctor told me that i will have 2 black eyes after the op. was just wondering if anyone know how long roughly does a black eye last?? Its just i have a couple of 21st coming up along with paddys day and i dont wanna have two black eyes for them!! Let me knwo anyway, thanks a mill!!:)

But on the plus side, it'll save money on a mask if you decide to be a superhero! :D

Seriously though, as Kenny5 says, about 2 weeks. Best try and get it done as soons as possible so that you have plenty of time to heal up.

start taking arnica even before so they kick in and make sure not to let anyone else touch the arnica cos apparently it loses some of its healing power if you do!

That's almost impossible to read. I don't mean to be pedantic but jesus have you heard of grammar? Syntax? Punctuation? WTF

Anyway.....I would have thought they would have set the nose when you went for the x-ray. Seems like they will have to break it and re-set it.

no the doc said that they have to wait 2 weeks so that all the swelling has gone down. didnt mention anything about breaking it again, said it either has to be "clicked" back in when it happens (on the football pitch) or else 2-3 weeks later! : (

Happened to a friend of mine in school when we were playing rugby, He had bruising and swelling for almost 2 months.

Do you normally heal from bruising quickly. If so you should be grand. Or use that stuff linked up there somewhere..

If you get vitamin K cream, it would speed up the process, Under 2 weeks for the bruising to go.

Why not just move the appointment to 2 wks before or just after?

    Hi all,

I rang up the hospital 2 weeks ago as i still hadnt heard anything back from them since march (presumed there was just a backlog) and they gave me an appointment for an assessment to be done for the 23rd May (yesterday). Anyway i went in and the doctor asked me when i went into the hospital first with the broken nose - told him it was back in march. He said that i should have been contacted within a couple of weeks that i left the hospital to get it 'clicked' back in and that if i wanted to get it straightened out now that id have to get cosmetic surgery done on it. He went on to say that id be in hospital for 3 days and would have to get off work for 2 weeks after that.

Is there anything that i can do about this?? considering that this is the hospitals fault that they never contacted me??:(

Just said that id let u's know how i got on...

    Irish health service what?

Talk to your solicitor, I really doubt you'd get that much though, prob just loss of wages and your legal fees if anything, Its not as if it left you with a retarded nose... unless it does.. then ching ching

Aw shit man, that sucks. Makes sense though, you can't just pop a bone back into place after its been healing for weeks. I dunno if you have a leg to stand on legally though, like Maz says, check with a solicitor.

    Hey, sorry for your troubles!

Same thing happened me a couple of years ago playing soccer. Long ball into defence, me and the striker go up for it, I head it out and he heads my nose into the back of my face! Massive swelling, pissing blood the works.

Thing is I had a big interview that week! Went to the interview with 2 black eyes and ended up getting the job. I dont know how as I looked well dodgy.

Like you I had to wait until the swelling went down and then got it reset. After it was reset the black eyes were not nearly as bad as when it first happened. You might have to wear a splint though (big white piece of plastic) on the bridge of your nose for about 5-7 days? That looks as bad as the black eyes! Be prepared for spontaneous outbursts of laughter when your mates see you!

Hope this helps, best of luck with the recovery...

It's important to take Arnica pre-op to stop bruising.

I had some major oral surgery done a few years back and the surgeon recommended Arnica. I'm not a believer in Homeapathy, but my bruising was far less and went quicker than most others.
