    Hi All,

My wife is fed up sitting behind me and wants a bike of her own. What would you recomend as a learner legal, not a 125 and something that doesn't need a restrictor.

    Thanks,

    Michael

teach her to walk before she runs there is nothing wrong with 125's especially when learning

    galwaytt,

what year and what sort of money would you be talkin about for your bike, what is it anyway.

This type of bike would be ideal because we live in the country have plenty of lanes and fields around us where both of us could learn to handle a bike properly. I'm a firm believer in learning to ride/drive in fields. I learn't to drive a car when I was 11. My brother brought me up to one of our fields and thought me. After two hours he was showing me how to pull handbrakes. Until I was 17 I was constantly tearing around fields pulling hand brakes etc, we had a rear wheel drive datsun (long time ago), now better known as nissans, but the experience of loosing control in a safe environment has saved me many times since I've got on the road. I've been driving for 13 years and (touch wood) have never had an accident.

Statistics from the US show that motoX riders are in proportionatley less bike accidents that the average biker, so definately the control you get from mucking about gives you the confidence and experience to handle dangerous situations.

Babybundy, a 125 is just not feasible where we live, we're in the middle of no-where. Any time we head off on the bike together you are talking about at least and 80 - 100 mile trip, so the bike has to be capable of 60 with out pushing it.

She should buy my CBR250! Low seat height (my wife can put both feet down flat), enough power to cruise at 120kph, Group 5 insurance, great headlights and disc brakes. AND ITS YELLOW!!!

    Interceptor,

she prefers cruisers to sports bikes but that is a nice cbr. I've printed the pictures for her to look at.

My brother is selling his 02 CBR 1100 blackbird if you are upgrading.

Too late, '02 CBR600 in my shed... R1 planned for next year. Bring her into James' in Gorey to sit on a selection of bikes and decide from there.

mickbyrne - it's a Suzuki DR200, and she loves it. We do have a field, so she goes on her DR, me on my GasGas and the kids on the Quad.

It's also a nice pootler for me to/from work the odd day, and you could turn it on a tuppence.........

DR4gul4 - Nice bike, but I don't want to spend that much on a starter bike. I think a DR200 could be a good bet, light and easy to handle and I'd have great fun too.

No it doesn't. No way that puts out more than 15hp

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

I've been looking at them, she's fairly tall, 5'9 or 10 I suppose. I've considered that varadaro all right. Shes not mad on the look of them her-self.

I think the older 400 is learner legal as is, what about the new 600, is that also learner legal?

if she hasnt really driven before you should get something small for a month or 2 just to get her going a month or to on something small wont be the end of the world and it will be easier for you to teach her

    CBR250....
I'm 5'4", weigh about 8 stone, and have never driven a mbike. If I received proper lessons from a qualified instructor, could I handle a CBR250? :o

My wife is 5'6", (not telling you her weight 'cos she'd kill me) and she can put both feet down flat with the cbr250. She is afraid to even try to hold the cbr600 up. She used be able to hold my RD350 and RGV250 but she says the CBR250 is the easiest by far.

Unless you are going to buy an RG80 and learn on it, then you would be well able for the CBR. I'm not trying to sell you my bike, but if you can drive a car and want to travel 30+ miles at a time, you need something bigger than a chainsaw with wheels.

Try and find an instructor near you with a small bike and take a lesson on it or go and sit on a selection in any large bike shop - they are generally accommodating and see what feels best.

I'd get her used to the basics first; cooking, cleaning, a bit of gardening, that sort of thing........
