Due to the turbalent times for neteller I'd perfer not to leave my roll with them. But I don't particularly want to leave it on a site or convert it to euro and put it in a bank here.
Does anyone know an easy way to open a bank ac in USD? Will I have to go to an American bank in America, or will an Irish one here do it for me. Or an American bank branch in Ireland?

..getting serious deja vu as I write this, did I ask the same thing about year ago...

how are you going to use neteller and a us bank?

Get them to send a micro deposit to it and link them, like I did with my irish ac. I'm presuming that I can use more than one bank ac with Neteller. Or if not just get a poker co to send money to it.

edit: do you mean they don't deal with US customers now? I can't check on their site as it is down now.

isn't it illegal now for us banks to deal with pokersites/neteller?

As far as I know you need to open one up while you're physical in the US. And if you try, be prepared to face the Patriot Act and all of its implications. At the very least you'll need a permanent address in the US, along with some kind of proof of address (from an employer (US) or goverment source) and a social security number or TIN. Probably a passport too. And depending on how strict the bank is, a visa or green card.

I set one up with Suntrust bank when I went on a J1 two years ago and still have the account (and debit card, which is handy for buying stuff online). Suntrust is a relatively small bank, so they weren't too strict about opening an account. So probably try the smaller banks first?

It's an awful lot of hassle tbh.

yes, I think all the major banks will though I only spoke to AIB. AIB call it something like a "hold account". You can't deposit or withdraw cash, there is a substantial minimum balance and it is quite expensive (flat quarterly or halfyearly fee, I forget how much).

You could probably set up a Pay Pal account in USD. Some sites accept this. Though again it's probably harder than it sounds. Setting up a bank account however without a permanent address in the US is very difficult. The only other thing I can think of is to consult websites that sell Florida homes to Brits. They will often help you set up an account if you show an interest in buying a property [you don't have to actually buy a property to do it mind.]

I found this on the AIB webpage regarding charges
    Currency Hold Accounts
    Administration charge
    £40.00 per hour
    Bank report for audit purposes
    £40.00 plus VAT
    Certificate of Balance/Interest
    £10.00
    Duplicate Statement
    £10.00 per page
    Unpaids In-collected
    £12.50

The main reason I don't want to move money to euro is because neteller/poker sites seem to take libreties with the exchange rate they use and you end up loosing out. Given these charges its probably not worth it for moving 5 - 10k about although for $5k you end up with about 50 euro less than what XE.com quotes.

Fatboydim, do you mean some poker sites accept paypal? Which ones, I coudl possible sign up there and tx that way. I can't work out a way to go from neteller->payapal.
Now that the US is off the scene, will PayPal start dealing with gambling sites outside the US?

I don't know about e-gold NTLBell. Can't get onto their site at the moment to find out.

£40.00 per hour? For an entry in a computer?

I'm pretty sure that I've worked with a business dollar account before. I think it was in NIB. You might want to ring around instead of checking web pages.

Best way to do it Flibble is to have everything in Euro.

Change your cashier account on the poker site to Euro (Most european sites allow this, defo Tribeca ones with a sportsbook anyhow and Prima ones do too)
    Change your Neteller to Euro.
    Bank A/C in Euro.

This avoids any exchange rates. When you sit at a table, the poker site takes Euro from your cashier account and converts it to Dollars available for play at the poker table. When you cash out from that poker table it uses the same rate (regardless of what happens in the market while u were playing).

I think you are best off avoiding dollars.

opening a hold account wouldnt pay unless you were maintaining one helluva online roll.
