The Mans a Legend. Reminded me of Ali V Foreman.

I was scared for Randy before the fight, couldn't believe what he did.

Looks like they're going to put him in With Cro Cop next, Jaysis, I'll be terrified for him again but again could be wrong.

Do you reckon the UFC will Market it likke Rocky Vs Drago... Rocky IV??

    Gowan Randy!!! :D

Fantastic win for Randy but it won't be long before crocop takes the title.

As delighted I was for Randy, I actually felt sorry for Sylvia. He has no hope of gaining any respect now that he got dominated in a fight he was supposed to finish in the first round. When he said he had an injury coming into the fight I got annoyed. What a clown. That right hand in the first few seconds was amazing, If someone had asked me what was the one thing that you expect not to happen in the first round, I would have said Randy dropping Sylvia with a big right. Even saying it now is strange.:D

Personally I hope Randy retires as a legend. I'd hate to have to even contemplate him getting hurt against Cro Cop.

As far as I can make out every judge gave him every round. He's an inspiration, a gentleman, a warrior. Before the fight on ufc.com I saw a photo from the weigh-in and I thought "Christ Randy looks old - he'll get his head kicked in" I have never been so happy to be wrong.

In a time when I believe the money men are spoiling a lot of sport and turning it into just another business, this was a true blue pure sportng moment. It was like something from another age - it should have all been in black and white - I didn't think this kind of thing happened anymore.

I honestly feel humble today. Randy couldn't give a damn about his age - not an excuse !! He has shown me that we could all do so much more with our lives if we smile, have manners and try our hardest.

The last time, in the last round that he put the big man on his his ass you could clearly see Silvia muttering to himself ala "what the fuc do I have to do here?"

Randy was like a force of nature, I'd love to get to remember him like this - glorious. I hope he leaves the arena carried shoulder high, please don't get hurt !!

Cro Cop Versus a pissed off Tim Silvia for a vacant heavyweight title ... Randy to sit in the commentary box emmanating greatness !!

randy was class. what a legend!!
when sylvia starting complaining about an injury he must have lost a lot of respect from his own fans (all 5 of them) you just dont do it.
having not experienced any of cro cop's previous fights in pride, is he that good that he is just going to plough right through the natural?

I'd have to watch a Randy V Cro Cop match from Behind the sofa.

I'd hate to see Randy get hit with that high kick.

They might put Randy in Against Arlovski first...

randy couture you absolute ****ing legend.....................

Sylvia complaining about an injury in the post fight interview just showed how little class the man has.. He can't take that amazing win away from Randy!

Sylvia will never see that belt again! I still believe Arlovski would destroy Sylvia if the fight again, and lets be honest.. It's Cro Cops belt, their just keeping it warm for him! :D

I'd love to see Frank Mir come back and shock us all.

The winner of the Filipovic/Gonzaga fight is to get a title shot at heavy weight, so you can expect to see Randy taking on Cro Cop.

What bothers me is that so many people completely wrote off Randy against Sylvia, then he wins and there just start looking for the next guy they assume will beat him.

When Randy fights Mirko he will bring a ****ing battle again. Believe it.

i was shouting for Randy so i was delighted and very surprised when he connected with that cracker in the first round. i meqan, i like Silvia nd got a bit pissed of when he mentioned his injury. although i think he knew he shouldnt have when he apologised straight away.

i'll look forward to the Cro Cop fight.

I do believe it - Randy always brings a battle, always did, always will, always, till the day he dies.

I have nothing but respect for him, as a fighter, as a man. I would love to remember him leaving the octagan carried shoulder high rather than carried on his shield (to quote sherdog !!)

I hated seeing him interviewed after the last Liddell fight, I love the interview he did in the dressing room after this one - the interviewer (I think it was Swick) was in awe, just like Joe Rogan had been before.

I don't care if it's now or if it's after he's beaten Cro Cop, I just wanna see him get out on a high.

Randy was soooo impressive!I never doubted Randy to win but he totally killed Tim.That was one of my favourite MMA moments ever along with GSP/Hughes II and Bj Penn/Hughes I

it is kinda annoying that people are taking away from randy saying "he was great but crocop..." well we'll see. lets enjoy the fight that was last night and talk about crocop when that match is made.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,969 ✭✭✭buck65

A good win for Couture but an abysmal fight IMO. Apart from the punch Randy threw and the round where they stood up and boxed it was very boring. Of course I blame Sylvia for lack of ideas, but when the fight went to ground it just died, Randy didn't seem to be able to submit Sylvia after showing great ability to take him down.

Like Randy said himself, he'll always be the underdog now at this stage in his career but if he can beat big tim so convincingly why not cro cop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 863 ✭✭✭bjj-fighter

One thing the Tim fight showed is to never count Randy out so if Randy does what he did against Chuck the first time, which is play his own game,I think he has a chance

Wait, your comparing Sylvia to Cro Cop?! The only thing those 2 have in common is they live on the same planet!

Anything or any fight with Sylvia's name on it is normally abysmal.

He wasn't trying to submit him at all apart from the RNC attempt in rd.1. The ground isn't all about submissions and they've never been Randy's primary game.

I actually nearly cried it was so heroic......
On paper Randy will lose, and lose badly to Mirko.....but you just can't work this level of MMA out using logic....it will play out how it plays out......nerves.....one punch.....one slam...one kick.....one wrong step...and it's over. That is why we all love this **** so much......anything can happen.....and has before and will again.....
If Randy beats Mirko, then he is in my eyes the greatest fighter the sport has ever seen period.....
How can you fault this man......Joe Rogan was nearly in tears....he said,
"That is the greatest thing I have ever seen ! "
He's 43 and in there battling a giant in their prime for 5 rounds and still fighting hard to the last second..you would simply not believe it if you didn't see it !
If they call Randy V Mirko.....I'm going to put 50 Euro on Randy and start going to Mass again because if he believes in it then I'm going to give him as much help as I can !
And if he chooses to fight then so be it....I don't want to hear people say, 'I hope he doesn't get hurt'.....of course we don't hope anyone get's hurt but someone always does.........and Randy would be the first to say that once he's made the decision to fight getting hurt is not a fear or a barrier but part of a decision. How much is up to circumstance but be sure that any wound, leg-break, torn muscle, split head or knock out would be greatfully accepted as part of the opportunity for greatness and achievement that these warriors like Randy live for - battling to be the best as they try to reach that mountain top !
I was doing a 10 K on a treadmill after work today and I hit a wall at about
8 k - but then I honestly had a very sad 80's action movie moment and all I thought of was Randy ducking side to side and man handling 285 pounds of giant arount the octagon and I thought to myself........the guy is 43.....that guy is 43.....that bleedin legend is 43 ! s.....so I just smiled and kept on running untill it hurt..

    Randy....thanks !

Randy has givin me inspiration for the competition on saturday 'cos if a 43 year old man can beat a UFC champion for 5 full rounds than a 13 year old boy thats been training for about 10 months can win an adults competition. When Im nervous I'll just think of Randy Couture

Isn't it illegal for a 13 year old boy to roll around with adults? :D

    Sorry, couldn't resist..

I doubt he could beat Cro Cop as convincingly, but dont just count him out.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not counting Randy out. Randy is indeed that man, and I had full fate he'd beat Sylvia.

Getting a win over Sylvia, is not the same as a win over Cro Cop.
Cro Cop is one of the most respected fighters, Sylvia will be pushing the hot-dog stand come UFC 69 :D

I may be hard on Sylvia, but I just hate the guy!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 763 ✭✭✭goo

It's mad to criticise something that Sylvia clearly said off hand after being beaten up for 25 minutes. I liked Sylvia before he was the champion, didn't like him as the champion at all but that had a lot to do with him beating people I like in really frustrating ways, as well as the reasons other people do bring up (how he fights...). The common opinion of him seems to be something close to hate, which is crazy though. The worst he's done to any of us is win the title surprisingly and worked towards keeping it, no matter how frustrating the fights were to watch. Us whinging about him keeping the title is comparable to the people who boo when a fight's on the ground for more than two minutes.

I don't get why people go on about Randy retiring a hero or legend or whatever. Losing doesn't make him less of a man or diminish his legacy, he's out there trying (and succeeding) despite increasingly greater disadvantage and I think that just adds to how impressive he is. I was disappointed when he retired after Couture vs. Liddell 3 because I don't agree that it should be champion or nothing and what he did on the weekend is just an example of that.

    Sorry, long one.

Is it just me or do the fighters thanking God after thier fights really really annoy you.Almost everyone did it at 68 but I'll let Randy away with it after that performance

when is it Couture is supposed to fight Crocop ? I know he is going to fight who ever wins at UFC 70 .

It doesn't annoy me as much as I find it "strange". No disrespect to the legend that is Mr. R. Couture but I found it particularly strange the way he thanked Jesus for dying for us on the cross and then immediately, in the next sentence, thanked the GIs who die "every day for our freedom". You could tease and argue that one out for the next year.

But hey, I agree with you, who gives a ****? The man could have said anything he wanted after that performance !!

It would actually have been very easy to resist. Not clicking on the reply button, not typing is much easier than clicking and typing. Trevor, no offence, actually, come to it I don't see how you won't take offence but anyway, you come across as a bit of a prat. I think you ought to think before you type a bit.

    Roper, Watch IT!

As regards the Randy thing, he dedicated his fight to Jesus, he didn't thank him for winning. There's a difference. If I dedicate my fight to a small child with lukemia(sp?) I'm not thanking him for making me win.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,497 ✭✭✭✭Dragan

Just out of interest are we gonn have this conversation everytime someone thanks Jesus or God after they win.

Some people have faith in an organised religion folks. It's entirely there right to do so, and if they want to use there TV time after a well fought win to mention said deity then so be it.

Freedome of speech does not only apply when people are saying what you want to here.

My apologies to BJJ Fighter if he took my comment as anything other then a playful jibe.

In retrospect, it wasn't a very productive thing to post.

I wish him, and you, nothing but the best of luck in the upcoming submission tournament.

    Apologies again.
