    Look closer.

    It has wings....

    They are painted black.....

    It's an aeroplane!

Well observed testicle. If you look really closely at the back you can see two jet trails. A cruise missle would only have a single exhaust plume.

If I had to place money on it, an Alaskan Airlines MD-80.

I beg to differ. Alaska has MD-80 variants (MD-83, I believe), which are in the process of being retired. No MD-90 variants.

I am fairly confident of this for two reasons. One is that I work at an airport which the aircraft fly into, I see them up close and regularly. The other is that Alaska's website says it has 80s and not 90s.

    Lads,

Forgive my ignorance, as I am not a huge aircraft buff, yet it seems to me that the aircraft in question in the Utah Google map appears to have its engines mounted directly over the wings, as opposed to the rear mounted engines on the MD 80 series.

Anyone got any answers to this?

It seems that part of the wings closest to the body of the aircraft are painted white.

I've never seen an aircraft with engines mounted over the wings?

    I read elsewhere that its a Mesa-Air CRJ900 aircraft.

A few do, usually ones designed for rough field operations where you don't want grass / dirt / wildebeasts sucked into the engine.

Underwing engines are more efficient though.

How about engines mounted at the front of the aircraft? :)

Not an aircraft as such, its a Wing in Ground Effect machine.
